It's called the iPad... but news is coming out slowly because the Verizon data network crashed under the load...
I will post details later... when they are known.
But Kindle, which I considered, shows no graphics ... no photographs or illustartions in books and newspapers. And it is black and white.
iPad is full color.
Mine had a keyboard built in... :-)
Unfortunately, it is a bit small also, and has no number keypad on the side.
That would be a big deal...
i saw $829, and then add $130 for the 3G version. that's 'top of the line'. if i was wrong, then i'm so very, very sorry.
The $829 includes the 3G, it's $699 without.
Kindle is readable outside I think....wonder if this device is...?
According to the info, the "base" models ($499 for 16 GB, $599 for 32 GB, $699 for 64 GB) do WiFi and Bluetooth. To add a "radio" capable of using 3G wireless networks, you add $130 to the price tag.
Kindle is readable, yes. I was wondering about the screen ask well. Reading books and newspapers without a GREAT screen is useless.
I just got my first iPhone after having had a 1st Gen Blackberry for the last 2 years. The iPhone is a toy and it’s battery life stinks. AT&T’s 3G coverage is also very spotty. Other than that, it’s great.
You may be right - but the same thing was said some time back when the iPod was introduced...
And some thought Steve was nuts with the colorful computers..
And lest we forget the pontificating predictions of Apple's demise when they quit including the floppy drive, instead substituting the USB port....
But I suspect that they will sell a bunch of these, if for no other reason that the hype that has built up. There will probably be lines waiting at Apple Retail Stores for these, and orders will be lined up online as well.
The real test will be if sales continue,or if they rapidly fall off.
I can't help but think, as many have, of the Newton. A very clever device that was just a decade (or less) ahead of its time. It took several years of PDA development and evolution before Handspring, Palm and others caught up to what Apple had already given up on.
Steve hasn't made very many mistakes regarding products and marketing in the last decade - I don't think he is starting now.
Apple does it again as usual...and as usual the troglodytes heads are about to explode with envy that no other company can do what Apple does.
I just don’t get it - the comments over at engadget are mostly negative and blasting Apple as “Fail” or even “Epic Failure” - So many saying they are disappointing.
Umm... hello - Pretty much all the rumors were correct - so why be now disappointed after salivating over the rumors? Jobs is delivering exactly what they were drooling for just days ago.
You just can’t please some people.
No built in camera :>(
Thus no easy on the road video calls....
No USB or FW port, but the world’s going wireless, so that’s apropos. I’ve gotta try one, get my hands on one at the Apple Store, or the Big Box store, but this looks like a winner; prepaid and lowcost wireless web plans (I think I read that in the live feed at the time) and option of a real hardware keyboard points in the direction of my getting one of these, probably the cheapest 3G config, contingent or course on coverage in the usual places I go.
Also useful for tying down aircraft on a rolling deck.
Ernest_at_the_Beach: I am guessing the A4 represents a quad processor.I think it's at least partly a play on Apple's older product history, but you could be right. Apple bought out PA Semi (I think that's mentioned in the live thread) and that made this possible, I'd guess. The A4 may represent a quad as you said, but it very likely represents Apple's mobile computing future.
