Eat Chocolate Without Gaining Weight

It's officially 2010 and we want it to be a healthy year. Chocolate is one of those treats that many people crave, and their weight suffers because of it. No more. Try these chocolate treats that won't add on pounds. Instead of going for chocolate substitutes, we recommend the real deal.

Amy Brightfield of Woman's Day has compiled her favorite chocolate snacks, and she's definitely on the mark. Dark chocolate, as she points out, is much better than a lollipop or salt water taffy (or Nerds Rope, or jelly beans...you get the point), and chocolate containing over 60% cacao also happens to be lower in calories.

Brightfield's recommendations include:

Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Singles - Have a real friend hide the rest if you buy the bigger bar, or get the smaller version at 190 calories for the whole thing. 71% cacao.

Raisinets - Fruit and nut done right, especially if you split the small bag of dark chocolate ones.

Green & Blacks Organic Chocolate - some of the tastiest, highest quality dark chocolate out there. You can get a 70% cacao bar that weighs in at 190 calories.

Yes, we get the six pound Nestle’s semi-sweet morsels
at Costco. Also, M&M’s, 56 oz bag. That will get us
thru the week. The Costco truffles are really suicide pills. it’s impossible to eat one or two. I think
there’s 55 in the box.

Have you tried the Kirkland chocolate covered raisins? They’re like crack in a jar.

I’m a Lindt fan too.

I actually put 2 squares in a cup of hot, black coffee for a quick pick-me-up in the PM.

Makes a nice mocha drink.

Excellent! Me personally, I drink so much java I should have an espresso machine bio-linked to me...

Another goody with hot black is a nice piece of parmigiano reggiano. I’ve tried quite a few, and the Grassi is superb!

Yes. On our last visit, they were giving samples.
After, receiving a sample, we would double back for
another. They do keep track. Four samples is limit.

Now you’ve gone and made me hungry-——I’ll try that cheese-—a good Italian grocer right near me.

Lol!

Make sure it’s the imported stuff, and must have reggiano stamped on the wheel.

There was one kind I tried from Wisconsin that was quite good also, though. I should buy a pound or so just to have it around!!

Enjoy!

I love dark chocolate. I feel compelled to mention that as the cocoa content goes up it becomes quite deadly to dogs, so be careful. We had a close call recently when we left a shopping bag on the floor we thought only had cans in it and the dogs got into the candy bars and one spent the night at the vet with seizures. Fortunately it was just semi sweet and not baking chocolate or high content cocoa or we would have lost a loved one.

I’ll try very hard to work on my run-on sentences so you have something to do when I’m not posting about chocolate, which is one of my most very favorite things in this world besides my dogs, cats, husband, kids, farm, chickens, nature, stars, trees, my garden, and complaining about the government full-time while I pull my sweat pants up to my waist and adjust my dentures that sometimes hurt, but not too much because I lost my teeth because I eat too much chocolate.

How’s dat? LOL! :)

When I was pregnant with baby #1 I craved pork rinds dipped in Hershey’s chocolate syrup.

YIKES.

I’ll bet you WERE a very good girl, LOL!

My crew & I had ‘Christmas’ scrubbed from the store on the 27th. We’ve already moved in all the seed starting supplies and have our new seeds for 2010 in their racks.

No small feat, but customers have been bugging us for seeds since before Christmas. I think it’s going to be one helluva Spring season again. :)

I was a Czarina before the man-child ever thought of appointing anyone! So was GOP Lady; she covers Champagne & Candlelight for us on FR.

FYI - We're having our last Christmas get-together today with my Mom over at my Sisters house. (Yes, THAT sister; the LibTard...but I can put up with her for a few hours for my Mom's sake. *Rolleyes*)

I'm bringing fixings for the Champagne/Pomegranate Cocktails you & I like!
