I’ll be at the May 14 launch of STS-132. I just can’t let the Shuttle retire without seeing at least one launch.

I’m glad for Nicole Stott’s sake that she’ll be able to re-visit her old space station one more time going up and back on the Shuttle.
Then, the junk heap, as with everything else obuma style.

Soyuz Since 1967, four people have died in Soyuz spacecraft during flight, while 14 have died in the Space Shuttle.
Unfortunately, Qantas does not yet fly into Earth orbit.

Unfortunately, Qantas does not yet fly into Earth orbit. Qantas, heck -- can you imagine Singapore Airlines in space?

I might make that one as well — where is the best viewing spot?
The one I saw (night launch), I just sorta stopped where a bunch of cars were stopped on the highway between Orlando and Cocoa Beach...

The best view has got to be from the grandstand near the mission clock but I doubt that I could get in there. I'll be watching from a McDonalds parking lot in Titusville. A parking spot facing the water. Food and free Wi-Fi service for the laptop. I checked it out in Google Earth and with luck I'll have an unobstructed view of the launch.

Very helpful, thanks.
If I end up in Titusville, when should I get there you think? Early early Friday morning?

If I end up in Titusville, when should I get there you think? Early early Friday morning? Big judgment call there. Launch time is 2:28 PM EDT. I'll probably arrive around noon and hunt for a good spot. That is if it launches on time. I planned on driving back to NC as soon as the shuttle is out of sight.

I watch night launches from the coast of Maine. It’s my job to call a few friends and remind them of a night launch. I also have the OK to call anytime at night if the northern lights are out. Would be neat if both happened at the same time.

Hmmm. I suppose they’ll look about the same in orbit, seeing as they already have parts that defy gravity.
