If you're a fish danger can come from any direction.

Those claws are almost as long as a man's finger and needle sharp.

LOOK AT THOSE FEATHERS! I’D SAY THAT THIS WAS A FAKE PICTURE, IF I DIDN’T KNOW BETTER. THANKS FOR THE PING.

Sorry about that — my Caps were on.

Saw a Osprey high in the sky this afternoon. Looked like it was head’n for the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.

Osprey, Pandion haliaetus. This is a fairly young male. He’s turning out to be a good model, I just hope no one spooks him. I don’t know why anyone would want to but there are a lot of strange people around who hate hawks of any kind.

I coulda sworn the Osprey was warlinus Boeing; serious death from the sky, powered by Rolls Royce 6,150 shp turbines.

At any rate, that is a fine lookin’ bird. Cudos to the photographer. This back-wood boy is a fan of the redtail hawk.

A few months ago, I watched a bald eagle swoop down from about 150ft (he circled and zagged) and grab something from a little lake just North of Forresthill, Ca.

I tried to get a pic with my cell phone but he was too far away. I waited, but he never came back.

Back in the Summer of 1999, my then 8 year old daughter and I were fishing from a small boat in a High Sierra lake when a bald eagle dropped out of the sky near us, hit the water, and then flew up over our boat holding a trout that looked to be about 15 inches long. Water dripped on us as he flew overhead. He landed in a nearby dead pine tree on the shore and ate the trout as we watched.

Wow! That's close- getting water on you. What I remember too, was the fuzzy looking legs on the eagle. I wasn't sure at first if it was a bald eagle until it came closer.

I guess as he decended, the air lifted the feathers on his legs, making them appear much larger. He just plopped on the water, and then, took off.

BEAUTIFUL!

I recall being out in the field and came across three huge turkey buzzards picking over a groundhog. They suddenly sprang up and hopped about 20 feet away. I thought I had spooked them.

Then I saw a tiny hawk come flying in. It gave the buzzards a quick look, picked around until it found a good piece of meat, and flew back to it’s perch on the nearby telephone pole.

The buzzards moved back in. But as soon as that little guy left his perch for more, those buzzards were quick to get out of his way!

He takes them himself! Pretty amazing if you ask me. He posts quite a bit, and all of his photos are really neat. This set is among the best as I recall. Although often I’ll think to myself “that almost looks like a painting” they are just so perfect. And the detail!
