LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.
The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.
Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

I get your point and I would have been the first one in line to give the coach the finger if it were me, but I’m not inclined to take a whole lot of poop.
On the other hand... kids in fraternities can’t be hazed? Employees can’t be discriminated against? They all can “freely” leave or quit.
We have a large number of precedents through the court system that disagrees with you on “freely chose”.
He wasn't punished for having a concussion. If there was any punishment it probably stemmed from the fact that James always had injuries at very convenient times, like when it was time to practice. For whatever reason, those injuries always miraculously healed in time for the game. That type of behavior doesn't merit a lot of support from coaches or teammates.
When you cry wolf all the time, people pay less attention when you actually see one.
Haha - yes he did. I hope pansy boy never gets a down in the game - he shouldn’t play if he is really recovering from a concussion, right?
And you mindless adoration of Tech football speaks volumes. I'm sure “Coach” is inspired by your slavish support.
Happy New Year!
Sounds like they won’t miss him much when he transfers after feeling the pressure during the Spring semester. I’d be highly surprised if he chose to play football after the bowl game.
I doubt he’ll play in the bowl game at all. Would you trust his blockers to block for him, under these circumstances?
For someone who claims to care very little about college football, you sure are interjecting your valuable opinion a lot on this thread. As one with two degrees from Tech and a daughter who goes there now, I can tell you that she knows what she is talking about.
The AD has had Leach in his sights for a while. Myers is a d*ckweed.
There is a lot of local discussion of this. Including shenanigans involving the boy’s dad. Also, there are some interesting things coming out regarding Myers.
He wasn't punished. He wore sunglasses to practice for a minor concussion so Leach helped him by putting on him a cool dark place. Get it now?
ND already has Brian Kelly from Cinci.
Craig James was one of the best football players to ever come out of the State of Texas. I watched him play in High School and at SMU. When he got his knee destroyed, he was the leading rusher in the AFC. I met his Father - a good guy.
It’s true the Coach had corrupted the program, but do you have any evidence that James was personally on the payroll?
That sort of thing was common back in the day. Most every school did it including UT and A&M. A good friend’s older Brother played for A&M under Bear Bryant and was always hired for great summer jobs in the oil patch by cooperating
alumni. Many of the star players in the old SWC were sporting around in fancy cars provided by alumni. SMU just got too flagrant and were turned in to the NCAA by another Texas University, IIRC Texas A&M.
True, there's no shortage of scum sucking lawyers willing to sue the universe for giving you an "owie" on your "boo boo" or giving you pink lemonade instead of yellow. Nothing to be proud of--and generally a scourge found in states in the gay northeast or along the Pacific coast--not West Texas.
I can hardly wait for little Adam and his daddy to file their lawsuit. It promises to be the top comedic entertainment of its genre since Pee Wee Herman's bicycle was stolen.
As usual, you are still having a reading comprehension problem stardowner - Thanks Crusty, I appreciate the comment.
It is just astounding - I hope meyers gets booted over this
Thank you, too, for noticing.
According to the reports I’ve seen most of the players are glad Leach is gone.
