LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.
The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.
Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

The closet was the size of a garage, was cool, and had running water. If college football turns out pansies like Adam James, I will no longer watch. And by many reputable accounts, James was a problem, entitled kid who had no concept of team and was out there for himself. To say he had an ax to grind with Leach is an understatement.
Get the facts pal - that closet was a media room - he complained of the sunlight so they moved him indoors.... you fall for anything huh?
There are a number of stories over James and Leach. Both appear to have problems.
I would say this as a coach...if some kid isn’t giving much to practice or putting up effort....you simply don’t play him. Putting the kid on the bench and denying him field time...is the best way of getting your point across.
As for any future stock for James...I would say that he has tainted his future and probably won’t get any help the rest of the way up. As for Leach....he will sue the school and likely collect a fair amount of money. In the end...the citizens of the state are the losers because they have to pay for all this hassle and costs.
Leach’s attorney says there was no such ultimatum - no demand to apologize.
Snake - that was fast because if he were the coach on 12/31 Tech would have had to pay him an $800,000 bonus.
This displays the absurdity of college football. Was the coach a putz? Maybe. Was the kid an obnoxious pussy? Maybe.
But frankly who really cares? It's only football for chrissake. It's not even a little important.
ping for later.
Civil court? Wow, just what this country needs, another stupid lawsuit.
Adam James was a spoiled brat kid who didn't get his way and finally got the revenge he wanted. Craig James is just as bad- a college player who accepted cash to play at SMU, and helped destroy that program as well.
There isn't a college football team in this country that will touch Adam James now.
Our Athletic Director, Gerald Meyers was a former basketball coach at Tech - he has had a bad relationship with Coach Leach - this was a hit job on Leach, nothing more.
Yet you took the time to post here..... just leave it is isn’t important to you. As an alum and the parent of a student, this is important to me.
This who thing is bunk. Discipline Leach, sure. But fire him after 10 years with no incidents? Bullsh!t.
That makes sense. Wasn’t aware of the contract situation.

Pissed off PING.
Anyone who cares about justice cares. Clearly you don’t. Leave, thread troll.
Coach wasn't punishing this whiney brat - he moved him off the playing field and had him watched - do the pansies think he should have been given some more royal treatment?
The kid was a known slacker - players have written about it, other coaches have written about it - including a University of Houston Coach -
And as I have said before, Coach Leach is recognized every year for his percentage of players who graduate - ut doesn’t do that, ou doesn’t do that - but Tech does because he cares enough to push the guys to graduate.
I hope Leach gets another HC job somewhere else- and he will- and comes back to haunt TT.
I wonder what the other TT football players think.
If I were a player and were certain that my coach had been wronged by a liar — and mind you, I can’t say that yet about the kid, just saying “if” — then it would be impossible to play well.
I wonder if any of them will sit it out, speak out, etc.
