LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.
The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.
Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

Wouldn’t want to be his son around campus.
James’ son will be a pariah. Rightfully so. Whiney, no talent, crybaby, rich-boy loser.
....but Leach got railroaded by Craig James.

Here is what Graham Harrell said about Adam James:
2008 Heisman Trophy finalist Graham Harrell:Adam was on the baseball team his true freshman year at Tech, before he ever joined the football team, and did not make it through the baseball season because of his selfish attitude. After a baseball game in which he felt like he did not get enough playing time, but the team still won twenty to one, he came into the locker room after the game and pouted and threw a big fit according another player on the baseball team.
A few weeks later in the middle of the season, he just stopped showing up to practices or game and quit because he was not happy about how he was being treated. One of my roommates was a baseball player on the team and many of my friends were a part of the team that witnessed all of this. These baseball players told me he was spoiled and selfish before he ever came to the football team. After quitting baseball he came out for football and his selfish attitude was very evident, as was his laziness. During off-season workouts he often would be caught skipping lifts in the weight room or finding ways to cut corners/get out of conditioning exercises.
Adam was a kid that seemed like he had been given everything he wanted his whole life and acted like if things did not go exactly how he wanted someone was treating him unfairly or someone needed to be blamed for his failures. He was a selfish player on and off the field that was counter-productive for our team and would be for any other team.

Adam James IS already a pariah. Now, he’s a man with a target on his back. He’d better transfer right quick. Go play for daddy’s SMU team.
It’s hard to judge this because the stories are so divergent. One side has a kid with a genuine (not faked) concussion and a coach who, instead believing the kid’s faking, makes the kid go stand in a corner, literally, for hours.
The other side has a kid who, when punished for faking an injury by a few hours of “detention,” immediately lawyers up (and daddies up) and makes a court case out of it.
Time may tell who’s closer to right, I suppose.
Damn. That was fast. Not sure whether he was railroaded or not ... the fact that the school moved so quickly makes me suspect that the evidence was pretty damning.
Tech will have problems replacing Leach with a coach of similar quality.
SnakeDoc
He should be kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons.
hey, 800k is 800k. you need look no further than that.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the team’s trainer and/or doctor put the kid in “isolation”? I heard a doctor had said what they did with him was the right thing to do. What’s the matter with that James wuss anyway, afraid of the dark?
I say Gerald Myers (AD) needs to follow him out the door. How can you put up with Bobby Knight’s antics and crater over the Little League dad’s involvement in his son’s life?
I believe that Leach was sick to death of dealing with Craig James, who Leach has said is worse than a Little League parent. Additionally, I would imagine that the James kid believes his stuff doesn't stink simply because he is the son of Craig James. Leach probably intentionally walked right up to what he believed was the line of what he could get away with doing. I don't blame him.
Tech should be talking to Tommy Tuberville ASAP. He would be an awesome acquisition for the program.
You put someone in a closet for 3 hours as punishment?
What a weirdo! He did it twice. He deserves to go.
Also, TT wouldn’t have to pay him $800,000 if he gets fired now and doesn’t coach the bowl game.
Graham Harrell is a stand-up young man and I would believe everything he had to say.
Rumor has it that Daddy Craig was constantly calling Coach wanting more play time for his baby boy, who, by the way, was NOT recruited by anyone - Coach only took him after Daddy sent his tapes to Coach - But supposedly Coach won't sign release for kids to leave the Tech program and go to other Big 12 or Texas schools - so this is how they got back at him.
If the allegations are true (and apparently they were), the coach needed to be fired.
It is time for the James family to go after him in civil court and time for Lubbock PD to step up and do their job.
§37.151. Definitions.
(6) “Hazing” means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, occurring on or off the campus of an educational institution, by one person alone or acting with others, directed against a student, that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the
purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in an organization.
The school had little choice because they gave Leach an ultimatum and he did not do as they desired. Leach is not going to apologize when he believes he didn't do the kid wrong. The school didn't leave themselves any wiggle room and Leach didn't play the game. Game over.
