LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.
The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.
Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

Here’s the part I don’t understand: Why in the heck would anyone want to live in Lubbock in the first place?

I’ve been through there a couple of times and I agree. I’m a Texan, but I wouldn’t want to live in the panhandle.

Sweetie - how do you think colleges get so much coverage on TV? Having games on tv brings the college name into the national limelight. Bowl games, players going on to professional careers - all of that is publicity for the School. No, not everyone is a football fan, or basketball fan - but sports is high profile and does give exposure to the school. Do you think all those hotels in Lubbock would exist without football games? The dining relies on that foot traffic as well.
The school has increased enrollment by almost 10,000 students in the past 6 years - were you aware of that? Do you think all those apartments weren't built because of the increased enrollment? Do you really think it was just a coincidence that the enrollment grew during a time when our football team was having the best 10 years of our entire history?
I honestly don't care if you don't like football - this is still a free country and my opinion of you isn't based on your love or distain of a sport - but your pompous attitude sucks.

Well I know Lubbock isn’t for everyone - it has been voted one of the most conservative cities in America, is a capital for cotton, oil and cattle.... but some people don’t appreciate good American values.

Again...why was James punished?

“Don’t know if he did or didn’t” (have a concussion)
Well, his doctor said he did. is that good enough?
Why was James punished for having a concussion?
To: JustaDumbBlonde
Tech should be talking to Tommy Tuberville ASAP. Craig James will be interviewing for the new coach.

Why do you keep insisting he was punished? The coach has a rule that if you can't practice due to an injury, you do something else like strength training - adam couldn't do that either so he was put somewhere to wait - you think it was punishment, I say it wasn't. He had trainers watching him and his overindulgent daddy claims he was locked away. Does the fact that his daddy called constantly demanding more playing time for his little princess, as well as former players and former coaches backing up the story not ring as even remotely true to you? You want to believe a prima dona daddy who was out to get the coach because he woudln't release adam to play for another school.
Overwhelming evidence just sails right by you...

I bet Leach ends up being the next coach at Florida State.
How about ND? And I do not mean North Dakota.

If I had to choose between Lubbock and Austin, I guess I would take Lubbock.

Haha - I know Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere - but when you consider what the town represents, it does make it a little more likeable. It is rock solid conservative folks that supply this country with basic essentials: oil, cotton, cattle.... austin is probably prettier and more fun - of course it is also more than 3 times larger than Lubbock and closer to several large cities too - but I like Lubbock. I like the people and like the atmosphere.

So your point was that locking someone in a room for 3 hours because he had a concussion was not punishment?
BTW, you ever had a football concussion? I have. It’s serious business.
To: cowtowney
Again...why was James punished?
He wasn't punished. He just was not given a free pass from practice. Pansy Ass said he had to have darkness, so Coach Leach gave him some.

I have no doubt you’re right and he’ll feel the wrath of the other players on the field with some shots (whether legit or cheap).
To: CSA Rebel
He doesn’t play but five to ten plays a game in a tight end set that it rarely run.
