Egypt on Thursday lifted a nine-ton gate of the goddess Isis which carved out of red granite and discovered in the port area on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

The gate is one of the rare artifacts discovered in 1998 by an archaeological survey carried out by the Greek archaeological mission in cooperation with the diving team of the Department of the Sunken Antiquities in Alexandria, said the Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni during the ceremony.

Hosni noted that a committee of the UNESCO would meet with Egyptian archaeologists to study the establishment of the museum under the waters of the Mediterranean, it would be the first museum of its kind worldwide.

Another part of the museum would be set up over the water surface taking the form of the lighthouse of Alexandria.

Isis, goddess of fertility, was one of the major goddesses of ancient Egypt.

Alexandria is one of the oldest coastal towns in Egypt with a vast wealth of monuments from different ages, especially in the area of Abu Qir Bay and the Eastern Harbor.

I’ve got to put a flag on this just so I can go back and find it easily for another great chuckle down the road.

Search ancient history. You will find Horus, the son of Isis, was born on the day we celebrate as Christ’s birthday.

Hmmm. I wonder if they found any ships down there? Abukir Bay is where the Brits defeated Napolean’s fleet and where they landed troops to take Egypt from him.
