All the organic material extracted from the corpse has therefore now been identified and is conserved in responsible hands, a spokesman for the museum said.
On the basis of considerable historical documentation, there are no doubts about the authenticity of the items.
The relics will be exhibited from early 2010, when the museum will re-open after current renovation work and will change its name to the Galileo museum.

Clerics eventually denounced him to the Roman Inquisition in 1615 over his support of a heliocentric, or Sun-centered, view of the universe.
Although he was cleared of any offence at that time, the Church condemned his belief as false and contrary to Scripture and Galileo promised to stop publicising it.
But in 1632, when he defended his views in his most famous work, Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, he was again tried by the Inquisition.
It found he was vehemently suspect of heresy and Galileo was forced to recant and spend the rest of his life under house arrest.

I wonder if that was the finger he used to give the Church the “finger” when he was in argument with them? Just wondering....
It sounds like Catholics got to him.
Is there a church the body parts were being “venerated” in?
Vatican post earlier said they had been found in an old basilica in Florence, I thot. I wonder where they will be exhibited in early 2010. Kind of cool, that VERY old finger. We’ll be in Italy in March. Does anyone know where??
The article mentions several of his fingers in several locations. It’s in the article.
I see that now, thanks. Galileo Museum in Florence, due to open ‘Spring, 2010’ after renovations.
I’ll never forget my first visit to the Cathedral of Santa Croce. In America, anything of historical interest is advertised so heavily it is difficult to stumble upon something important unawares. I was strolling through the church when I saw a small sign that read: Tomb of Galileo. My knees buckled a little from the shock. The emotions were overwhelming. After grabbing my wife and breathlessly showing her the travertine casket, I turned and saw another sign: Tomb of Michelangelo. By the time I discovered the tomb of Dante nearby I was numb. It took the rest of the afternoon to recover.
He always wanted to give the Pope “the finger”.
Those wacky catholic's...always joking about.

I work in the stock market in Los Angeles. I was slated to work for one week in New York at the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange.
I walked on my high heels along Wall Street on cobbled streets [tearing the leather off]. On a break I walked to Trinity Church. At the top of the stairs I realized the church was closed. I turned and looked down to the right: Alexander Hamilton’s grave!!! I was so shocked I nearly fell down the stairs!
And, yes, the rest of my journey was eaten up on 9/11. We have been witnesses to history.
Yes BunnySlippers, wonderful shots! I can’t wait to get back there again. Eight trips to Italy have only whetted my appetite. History at every turn...
Cool about your Hamilton experience. You know the feeling...
