I wonder if that was the finger he used to give the Church the “finger” when he was in argument with them? Just wondering....

It sounds like Catholics got to him.

Is there a church the body parts were being “venerated” in?

I’ll never forget my first visit to the Cathedral of Santa Croce. In America, anything of historical interest is advertised so heavily it is difficult to stumble upon something important unawares. I was strolling through the church when I saw a small sign that read: Tomb of Galileo. My knees buckled a little from the shock. The emotions were overwhelming. After grabbing my wife and breathlessly showing her the travertine casket, I turned and saw another sign: Tomb of Michelangelo. By the time I discovered the tomb of Dante nearby I was numb. It took the rest of the afternoon to recover.

He always wanted to give the Pope “the finger”.

found he was ‘vehemently suspect of heresy’ and Galileo was forced to recant and spend the rest of his life under house arrest.

Those wacky catholic's...always joking about.
