We've been saying it for years, but everyone thought that we Mac-heads had a chip on our shoulder from the once-sour relationship with Microsoft. Finally, however, the truth has come to light; a group manager from Microsoft has gone on record and admitted the source of some of Windows 7's prettier bits and pieces.
Simon Aldous sat down with PCR for an interview and when he was asked to comment on the agility of Redmond's latest operating system, he had this to say:
"What we've tried to do with Windows 7 whether it's traditional format or in a touch format is create a Mac look and feel."While I am glad that people at Microsoft are finally accepting the superiority of OS X, it still stung a little when Simon started to backtrack saying that Vista was more stable than OS X.

He was also heard to say that the Zune “couldn’t hold a candle” to the iPod.
and Apple took the Mac idea from Xerox. Zzzz.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Nope... Apple was already working on a GUI before visiting PARC. And Apple BOUGHT the rights to use what they learned while at PARC.
> Apple BOUGHT the rights to use what they learned while at PARC
Long after the Sun has gone supernova and Earth is crisp and computers are gone and humankind is but a memory, there will be some malcontent Windows fanboy on an outer planet, picking his toes and muttering, "Yeah, well Apple stole the GUI from Xerox...".
It's the most tenacious false meme in the universe, I swear... ;-)
Apple gave Xerox an equity stake in the company in exchange for some -- but not all -- of the GUI interface they stole. They most certainly would not have made such an offer to Xerox if they already had any defensible prior art on the drawing board. Even the libtard weenies at Apple aren't stoopid enough to offer to pay money for an idea they already have.
Duh.
But of course, the brain-dead folks who support Apple lap-up their party line. By the way, the company is hugely damaging to conservative causes.
Apple is theft central. The GUI is Xerox's. What is OS X? BSD. What is the iPod Touch/iPhone interface they've (erroneously) been awarded a patent for? Stuff stolen from Palm OS.
Liberate yourself. Don't use or develop software for Commie outfits like Apple. And jailbreak your iPhone, just to annoy the little fascists.
Very interested in this new Windows 7 system, from the reviews it seems that 7 is the logical heir to Windows XP, with that dreaded Vista coming in as the middle abyss to avoid at all costs
Oh wait. They did.
Once.
It's called Objective-C.
I have a relative who just bought a Samsung netbook w Windows 7 on it and she is very happy. Over the phone I got her connected to the wireless router in her house with Windows 7 getting the credit for making this so easy.
Main purpose of netbook is when on vacation to keep in touch
What I couldn't believe was that on the MS blog they were trying to say with a straight face that they HADN'T been copying Apple. The real knee slapper was that they link to a NY Times article that says Office 2007 is popular. My campus was forced to Office 2007 by our IT department and I haven't talked to anyone that likes it.
Microsoft is nowhere near as left-wing a company as Apple.
My original point: that Apple has never really come up with an original idea of its own -- its nonsensical claims to the contrary notwithstanding -- remains unchallenged in your post; in fact, you acknowledge it.
Interface is far too cluttered, and is WAY too high on the eye candy.
Not an Apple fanboy. Read here if you're interested.
meme /mim/
nounPlease try not to be intentionally ignorant, it's unbecoming.
a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.
Origin: 1976; < Gk mīmeîsthai to imitate, copy; coined by R. Dawkins, Brit. biologist
BTW, I -do- heartily agree with you about Objective-C being pretty damn stupid.
Microsoft is pathetic. They haven’t had an innovative idea in years. I feel embarrassed for them.
Apple paid for the trip and the right to use the knowledge gained. Then Apple heavily improved on the basic PARC GUI, making it much less hardware-hungry and more usable.
BSD, stolen? How can you steal it when the license allows exactly what Apple did?
Palm? Give me a break. I've used several Palms since the Pilot, and they weren't close to what the Touch/iPhone can do. Besides, the Newton predates the Palm if you want to talk about copying.
There are some similarities. Several of the command-line utilities are BSD. Of course, as with Apple, it is perfectly legal for Microsoft to do that.
As for look and feel and features, Microsoft is always aiming for the previous version of OS X.
