Fifty Ugliest Cars of the Past 50 Years (according to BusinessWeek)
BusinessWeek ^ | Damien Joseph

Posted on 11/03/2009 9:01:16 AM PST by DemforBush

Considering how many new cars are rolled out every year, it's no surprise that a few might be just plain homely. There's a chance that certain styles might become fashionable with a dash of retro hip. (Well, maybe not from the 1970s.) But for the most part, the following 50 cars will never be anything but design duds...

I didn’t say they were bad cars, only the “what were they thinking” styling!

Funny I thought the 458 Italia is gorgeous. The 360 and 430 are very fine looking cars but my jaw dropped when I first saw pictures of the Italia.

Then Enzo just looks like a go-fast toy to me like a Matchbox car I played with as a kid. Not the prettiest Ferrari, but a wild, over-the-top, look-at-me car. If they were going to include the Enzo on the ugly car list they should have included Lamborghini’s Diablo and Countach which run in the same over styled vein (the Murcielago isn’t pretty either, but at least its relatively subdued).

Anything built by Citroën is ugly by definition.

She sure is beautiful, and if she has a nice heart even better. Quite a gorgeous lady.

As for her car, she's allowed to drive it since she looks good ...keeps attention off the car. However that only applies to her ...think of it as a special clause. A clause that will not work for 90% of the population.

I’m not a fan of the high-arched fenders and the sharp seams/lines. Maybe it’s too much of a departure, but something I’ll learn to love. If only.

The Enzo was just ridiculous. Not good looking at all, just “different”.

Funny I thought the 458 Italia is gorgeous.

Me too, and most of the various car mags (including Top Gear and EVO) think the 458 is a bl@@dy gorgeous Ferrari, particularly after the last slew of Ferraris that received mixed reception (e.g. the 612, and even the 599). Furthermore, it managed to meld stunning looks with even more stunning aerodynamic performance (always hard to do ...generally at the bleeding edge you either get one or the other), and in terms of performance it is good (could be less than 3.4 to 60).

Anyways, I think the 458 is gorgeous ...and good since the new McClaren is coming out (which, even though it MAY have better performance, will not be able to match the looks of the Ferrari).

NO I think the ENZO deserves to be on the list for the reasons mentioned; total excess. The lines just don’t look right.

"The Pinto in it’s day wasn’t a bad looking car..."

No it just rusted out a week after it was driven off the show room floor :o)

Had a friend who owned one. To quote Luke Skywalker" "What a piece of junk".

The license plate says Tennessee. To think they drove that from here down to what appears to be Miami just to take that picture. :-P

I was surprised that only one Scion made the cut -- I'm not aware of a single model that looks good.

My nephew has a Scion tc...not a bad little car.

There was only a single Volvo wagon - another ugly car maker.

By the way the top ugliest car ever made "the Edsel"

You've obviously never seen the Pontiac Aztek . . . the Scion xB . . .the Volkswagen Thing . . . or the Smart Car. Compared to those atrocities, the Edsel was the pilot fish for the Green Hornet's Black Beauty (customised 1964 Imperial Crown Sedan) . . .
