Bob Dylan began a live concert tour in Seattle last night and the first song he Played was "Gonna Change My Way of Thinking"
Gonna change my way of thinking,
Make myself a different set of rules.
Gonna change my way of thinking,
Make myself a different set of rules.
Gonna put my good foot forward,
And stop being influenced by fools.
So much oppression,
Can't keep track of it no more.
So much oppression,
Can't keep track of it no more.
Sons becoming husbands to their mothers,
And old men turning young daughters into whores.
Stripes on your shoulders,
Stripes on your back and on your hands.
Stripes on your shoulders,
Stripes on your back and on your hands.
Swords piercing your side,
Blood and water flowing through the land.
Well don't know which one is worse,
Doing your own thing or just being cool.
Well don't know which one is worse,
Doing your own thing or just being cool.
You remember only about the brass ring,
You forget all about the golden rule.
You can mislead a man,
You can take ahold of his heart with your eyes.
You can mislead a man,
You can take ahold of his heart with your eyes.
But there's only one authority,
And that's the authority on high.
I got a God-fearing woman,
One I can easily afford.
I got a God-fearing woman,
One I can easily afford.
She can do the Georgia crawl,
She can walk in the spirit of the Lord.
Jesus said, "Be ready,
For you know not the hour in which I come."
Jesus said, "Be ready,
For you know not the hour in which I come."
He said, "He who is not for Me is against Me,"
Just so you know where He's coming from.
There's a kingdom called Heaven,
A place where there is no pain of birth.
There's a kingdom called Heaven,
A place where there is no pain of birth.
Well the Lord created it, mister,
About the same time He made the earth.

(Second song was "Shooting Star.)
the list - ping please
Thank you for sharing this with us. I did not know Bob Dylan was a Christian.
When you wake up!
I think he waffles back and forth being a true believer and a not so true believer. Depends on “the times, they are a changin’”
FRom an old Dylan ping list - scott says has the offical one
And I am sure you will provide evidence for that statement.
Bob must believe he hasn't had a good enough reason to perform it before now. Wow the lyrics are friggin right on the mark!
Any other info or reports on this concert? Last and only time i saw Dylan live he didn't talk to the audience at all. Not even hello. Maybe he just speaks thru his music. Would love to hear more about the concert.
I love Dylan, though he seemed to have bought into the Hussein Kool-Aid.
Maybe he changed his way of thinking. :)
I think I know why you may think that way. He was reported to have made one statement in one interview that alluded to "change" in relation to the new president. From that, all sorts of people jumped to all sorts of conclusions.
With Dylan, what you see (or think you see) is not always what you get. In his most recent book, he said his favorite politician was.....Barry Goldwater.
Go figure.
I knew about his "Christian phase" but not sure if he really is one (I guess, like everyone else, it is striclty between them and God - I know that I'M saved, not sure about anybody else, though).
"Slow Train Coming" was a great album - I stll listen to it - ranks up there with "Nashville Skyline" and "desire".
yeah, i won’t throw Bobby overboard for that one supposed statement.
He is a good guy...
I really loved those albums as well as his harmonica on at least one of Keith Green’s songs.
Several sites will have current info. Most complete site I know of is www.expectingrain.com.
Thank you sir!
Lil and I saw Dylan in July (with Mellencamp and Willie Nelson). My question would be....how could you tell that he was singing that song?
Often we didn’t recognize a song until we could pick out a few words in his mumbling ejaculations like hearing the words “rolling stone” and figuring he must be singing “Like a Rolling Stone”..even though you’d never know it by listening to the arrangement.
I love Bob, but wow.
It ain’t easy. I grant you that.
I should add though....his band is awesome. While I was not sure what they were playing...they played it about as well as any band that I’ve seen.
Looks like he played
It’s Not Dark Yet at the same show...
Shadows are fallin’ and I’ve been here all day
It’s too hot to sleep and time is runnin’ away
Feel like my soul has turned into steel
I’ve still got the scars that the sun didn’t heal
There’s not even room enough to be anywhere
It’s not dark yet but it’s gettin’ there.
Well, my sense of humanity has gone down the drain
Behind every beautiful thing there’s been some kind of pain
She wrote me a letter and she wrote it so kind
She put down in writin’ what was in her mind
I just don’t see why I should even care
It’s not dark yet but it’s gettin’ there.
Well, I’ve been to London and I been to gay Paris
I’ve followed the river and I got to the sea
I’ve been down on the bottom of the world full of lies
I ain’t lookin’ for nothin’ in anyone’s eyes
Sometimes my burden is more than I can bear
It’s not dark yet but it’s gettin’ there.
I was born here and I’ll die here against my will
I know it looks like I’m movin’ but I’m standin’ still
Every nerve in my body is so naked and numb
I can’t even remember what it was I came here to get away from
Don’t even hear the murmur of a prayer
It’s not dark yet but it’s gettin’ there.
