I could swear I posted a reply last night... but it’s not there now. Must’ve just thought it really loud.

I carry the Kimber RCP. It’s super lightweight, and has been de-snagged on the hammer and top. There’s no sights... just a groove down the top of the slide. I just love it. It’s easy to carry in a pocket— pretty much any pocket. I have one of those pocket-holsters to keep it standing up in my jacket inside pocket. It so easy to carry that I do end up actually carrying it most of the time.

While it’s important to shoot it often to keep sharp... it’s not the sort of gun that is enjoyable to put lots of rounds through. I have a full-size for that. The RCP kicks hard, and you really have to keep a tight grip on it. Without any weight, it really can’t be any other way. It’s punishing to your hand after several shots— but that’s all I figure I need it for. Though... I carry two extra mags anyway. Mostly that’s to balance the weight in the opposite pocket. :-)

Actually, I rate it as a "WIN". This is how "bilingualism" and "trilingualism" should be handled. It grates on me to see half of the stuff in America written in a foreign language. And that's not counting bad translations from Chinese to English.

Well, I committed Kimber today. I went with the Ultra Covert II, rather than the Ultra CDP II that was sitting next to it. Here it is next to the Walther PPS. I have to admit, at least it's prettier than the Walther.

I ran the financial numbers, and figured replacing the higher sights on the CDP with lower Novak night sights would probably equal the price difference, not even counting the laser grips, which right now are at a take-it-or-leave-it stage. The "carry melt" advertised for the CDP looked like just plain ol' "broken" edges to me. It's what you would put on any piece of metal so it doesn't slice things up.

The Covert has a real, but not extreme, "melt" job, and shows evidence of more custom work. The better sights alone sold me, so everything else was just gravy. This is just a tool, not an object of art like a rifle would be.

As shown, the Kimber weighs 1 lb, 8 oz, compared to the Walther's 1 lb, 4 oz. The Kimber's grip is big enough to provide something for all my fingers to hold onto, while the Walther is in its minimal configuration with a five-shot mag. Firing a whole box of hot 9mms while holding the weapon with two available fingers wasn't much fun.

I don't know when I'll be able to provide a range report. Right now I'm debating risking all that AGW that's freezing everything out there, and look for a Sig Mosquito, along with a threaded barrel to put a dummy can on. It would be nice to have a .22 that looked like a "grown up" handgun.

Evening Win-mag; that’s a right nice handgun you have there, yes indeed. Kimbers do appear to be well made; my shootin buddy has two, one full size and one carry. I do enjoy the 1911 platform.

Oh, part II. Re: near full size/full size .22; Have you looked at the CZ Kadet? They have a nice feel and are supposed to be accurate. Haven’t shot one myownself, I’m content with my Ruger .22.

Oh, part II. Re: near full size/full size .22; Have you looked at the CZ Kadet? They have a nice feel and are supposed to be accurate.

Actually, I hadn't even heard about it. But it would be a nice companion piece to my dad's CZ75.

His is an original, bought with a special individual State Department permit, back when Czechoslovakia was behind the iron curtain. It was imported from a dealer in Canada, where the retail price was an amazing $250 is US money. But then I had to add a 60% "commie tax". Plus, it remained in a bonded warehouse for two months (at $5 per day) until the agent decided to let me know it was there.

I gave it to him for his birthday. He knew it was almost impossible to find a CZ75 inside the USA in those days. I just never told him why.

CZ handguns aren't quite as common as dirt nowadays, but they're still good values. So maybe a mini-me CZ wouldn't be a bad idea.

Interestingly enough, the Kadet is available convertible unit as well as a stand alone unit. And for a local touch, the slides are stamped Kansas City, Kansas. Natch, there is a CZ forum. Lots of good info and lore there. I’ve shot the CZ some as a rental at the range, it’s a darn nice handgun.
