They only need us to open the cat food cans. Once they evolve thumbs, we’re toast.

Twice this week Luke has asked, “When are we getting a new cat?”

Well, when are you getting a new cat?

A cat would look good under the Christmas tree.

So I answered every question as innocuously as possible and it said 67% chance.

Well, I had a Sig 522 in my hands for about three minutes today. One of the EBR emporia got one in, which they're keeping for a sample until more arrive.

The most telling difference is blowback action, which results in a different bolt shape and ejection port. And the fact that any of the mechanism on top of the barrel is there just for show.

It is generally faithful to the Sig 552 configuration, although I already have ideas on improving that. There are no iron sights, not even as backups. Just the $40 chicom Sig-branded sight. But the front "gas block" has the dovetail that should accept a real Sig 55x hooded front sight. I have to then find out where I saw the H&K-like rear drum sight that goes on the rail. And I already have a vey faithful repro of the open-ended three-prong Sig 552 flash hider, rather than using the M16-type as on the 556. I'll probably add the bayonet lug, and get a Wenger bayonet, just for the sake of completeness.

So the sightings are getting closer to home. I hope they get enough of them soon to make Christmas shoppers (or at least me) happy.

I'm considering a "carry" .45, and I'm looking for recommendations. I'm looking for something with common custom features right out of the box. The Kimber Ultra CDP II looks good for a snubbie that seems to have most of the "must-have" features for a carry piece?

Any other suggestions that don't require a lot of custom work?

Oh, and one question I've always wanted to ask: why is it that just about every M1911-type handgun made today has the straight mainspring housing, rather than the arched?

Kimbers are the perfect out of the box CHL rig an I will suggest a new smith alexander mainspring guide with mag well addition. All my 1911s have them. Arched or flat.

Look also at the Clark Meltdown. That is my carry rig. My work issue is a Glock 31 so that gets carried a lot as well. Key is a dehorned comfortable rig that is easy on your skin, clothing, furniture an vehicle so you can carry 24/7. I use wilson rogers 8 round magazines for all my 1911s. I will send some links later as I just have my blkberry with me now.

Stay Safe 300 !

My brother (his wife) has a Springfield subcompact that I have shot and liked a lot. The Kimber has more 'melted' edges so that is a plus. Well, a plus depending on your holster.
I carry my full size Spingfield when I carry a 1911. I have been considering if I want a Commander size one as an upgrade, or a subcompact like the Kimber or SA.

As for the spring housing, I think they decided that the hand does not really contact there that much. Hence why some high end carry pieces have a bobtail down there. If I had more time and money I might do this.

Springfield's 'GI' series has curved spring housings.

Oh, I almost forgot. I also carry 8 round mags (mecgar) and swear by them due to the plastic floor plate. I had a all metal 7 rounder gouge a groove in a church pew right through my shirt one time. The front edge of the floor plate is just perfect for banging on stuff. :P
