The detailed chemical structure of a single molecule has been imaged for the first time, say researchers. The physical shape of single carbon nanotubes has been outlined before, using similar techniques - but the new method even shows up chemical bonds.

Dr. Egon Spengler: There's something very important I forgot to tell you.
Dr. Peter Venkman: What?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Don't cross the streams.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Why?
Dr. Egon Spengler: It would be bad.
Dr. Peter Venkman: I'm a little fuzzy on the whole "good/bad" thing here. What do you mean, "bad"?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Dr. Ray Stantz: Total protonic reversal!
Dr. Peter Venkman: That's bad. Okay. All right, important safety tip. Thanks, Egon.

14 Each of the 5 hexagons is a ring of 6 carbon atoms (some shared between rings). A hydrogen atom is attached at each of the external points - 4 on each end ring and 2 on each internal ring.

no way!
That is cool.
Thats a good level of detail for something smaller than light!
Now if someone could tell us what are the white and dark spaces? =o)

My question is, how did they get the molecule to stay still?
Usually, my molecules keep pouncing, or jumping at strings, or stalking a shadow.

What is the significance of this? Its very interesting but why all the excitement?
Is it because its so incredibly small and never before been seen (imaged)?
