Former world champion Nelson Piquet has been warned that he could face a ban from Formula One if he doesn’t publicly apologise to Sir Lewis Hamilton for using a racial slur to describe him in an interview.
Piquet used the derogatory Portuguese phrase ‘neguinho’ while referring to the seven-time world champion on a podcast with the Brazilian publication Motorsport Talks in November last year.
The 69-year-old recorded the interview in Portuguese, with the footage being uploaded onto YouTube in March before being translated into English - gaining traction on social media on Monday ahead of the first anniversary of the crash.
Piquet, who won the world title in 1981, 83 and 87, had been discussing the collision between Hamilton and Max Verstappen on the first lap of last year’s British Grand Prix.
Piquet - whose daughter Kelly is dating Hamilton’s rival Verstappen - had suggested Hamilton pushed Verstappen off the track on purpose, ending his race.
He said: ‘The neguinho put the car in the wrong way and didn’t let [the other driver swerve].’

Lived in Brazil for 2 and a half years and was married to an Afro-Brazilian (Mulata really) for 8 years - weird on the total lack of racial hostility and social segregation on the one hand, although in the upper middle class neighborhood I lived in (Moema) the only people darker than me (other than my wife) seemed to be domestics and security guards. Here in the US races are more socially segregated, but we have more black and “pardo” people in white collar jobs than Brazil did and still does.

Hambone’s just mad cuz he's running mid-pack and the newbie teammate is outpacing him this year. Yup.
Hamilton's all about using officials to win it for him. If it were up to him, the World Cup winner would be changed AFTER the World Cup because the referee missed some penalty or the other.

The story I read was that this was from an interview a year ago and was in the Portuguese language.
