Lived in Brazil for 2 and a half years and was married to an Afro-Brazilian (Mulata really) for 8 years - weird on the total lack of racial hostility and social segregation on the one hand, although in the upper middle class neighborhood I lived in (Moema) the only people darker than me (other than my wife) seemed to be domestics and security guards. Here in the US races are more socially segregated, but we have more black and “pardo” people in white collar jobs than Brazil did and still does.
