Florida Quarterback Tebow Leaves Reporters Speechless: "Yes I am" Saving Myself for Marriage

Tim Tebow

LifeSiteNews.com) - Last week Florida Gators Quarterback Tim Tebow's photo may have graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, the same magazine that is best known for its annual "swimsuit issue," but the contrast between the two cover stories couldn't have been more glaring.

At 21 years of age and graced with boyish good looks, Tebow is one of the most talked about rising stars of the NCAA; but the football superstar literally left reporters speechless last week when he answered a question during a press conference about whether or not he is "saving himself" for marriage. quot;Yes I am," said Tebow briefly, who then indicated he was ready for the next question. However, in the video of the press conference, a reporter is heard stumbling over his words in the background as he tries to ask a follow-up question. Tebow then laughs, obviously reacting to the reactions of the reporters in the room.

"I think y'all were stunned by that," he says. "Y'all can't even ask a question. Wow. I mean, I was ready for that question. I don't think y'all were."

It wasn't the only controversial remark that Tebow made that day. In response to another question about whether or not people may be tired of the volume of coverage devoted to the young football star, Tebow, a devout Christian, said that the level of exposure he receives is a mixed blessing. However, he said, he looks at the positive side that, thanks to his fame, he has been able to share his Christian faith with so many people.

In addition, the football star told the reporters that he believes that the publicity given to his mother's story has helped other women choose not to abort their unborn children. Tebow's mother, who serves as a Christian missionary together with her husband, was pressured to abort Tebow following a life-threatening infection she suffered while pregnant with him. Doctors pressured her to abort her son to save her own life, but she ultimately resisted the pressure and both mother and child survived the birth.

"There has been a lot of people that have been encouraged not to have an abortion because they heard the story of my mom, or they have been encouraged because they have heard me give my faith on TV or in a report or something," said Tebow.

"You know what, although there has been a backlash, oh, well. You know what, I'll deal with it if I have to. It's not a big deal to me because of the kids and people that have been encouraged by the stories we have tried to tell and by the life that I've tried to live."

Growing up Tebow would often help his parents with their Christian mission work in the Philippines. He was homeschooled by his mother, who instilled in her children strong Christian values.

Tebow was the first home-schooled athlete to be nominated for the Heisman Trophy. "That's really cool," he said at the time. "A lot of times people have this stereotype of homeschoolers as not very athletic - it's like, go win a spelling bee or something like that - it's an honor for me to be the first one to do that.

I don’t think Ann and Mitt Romney were engaged when he left on his mission. I could be wrong. Why are you trying to turn a wholesome teenage romance, where both kids were living the standards they were taught by their parents, into something ugly?

And, so what if they were engaged? My 18 year old grandson has a cute little girlfriend who expects to wait for him when he leaves on his mission next year. Maybe she will, maybe she won’t. A lot of missionaries leave girlfriends behind.

As to Ann Romney, I believe her family had resources of its own. She wasn’t some poor little match girl he picked up on the street. And, if I’m not mistaken, some or all of her siblings have converted to Mormonism, too. So, what are you saying? Undue influence was used?

Like I posted, she was 16 when she was engaged to him (he started dating her when she was 15) and while Romney was missing out on the draft while living in Bordeaux, France his anti war presidential candidate father was busy converting the teen to Mormonism in preparation for his sons return.

Ever heard of the Moro... about 5.25% of the total Philippine population

If they actually go to the Muslim areas, then more power to 'em! Somehow I suspect that is not the case.

“Surprise, society: some of us do/did wait.”

Exactly. And it is still possible to raise disciplined, respectful, loving, caring, God-fearing, Bible-reading, Christ-exalting young people who wait. Young people who know WHY they are waiting.

It is still possible to raise Christian young people who would rather, of their own volition, and by their own understanding of home and family life, be with their parents, brothers and sisters, than running around with worldlings, amuzing their flesh on passing fads and back seats in vehicles. It is still possible to raise young people in such a way as to make it unneccessary to have to call around to find out where they are and who they’re with.

It is still possible to raise young people who turn up their noses at Rap and Rock ‘n Roll and Michael Jackson-type filth, AND UNDERSTAND WHY, and can articulate it.

It is still possible to raise the next generation of statesmen and diplomats who haven’t smoked dope, been drunk, or slept around.

For best results, firmly determine to raise this kind young people before making the decision on whom to marry, and so only marry an individual who also wants to raise such a new generation.

” . . . but why is it that Protestant Missionaries are constantly going to countries that are predominantly Catholic . . . “

Why do Bible-believing Protestant and Baptist Filipinos (for example) also continue to preach the Gospel to their own countrymen who are Catholic? Therein you will find the answer to your question.

He was homeschooled by UF alumni parents and all this was well known.

My son’s high school team played against him for state semi’s a few years ago and I got to see then that Tebow was the real deal.

That is an odd claim, do you have some numbers?

The nature of the activity does not lend itself to accurate tracking. The feverish activity in what was Catholic Guatemala is well documented. I have known a number of Protestant missionary types (and those who belonged to organizations that sponsored them.), and they were talking about Poland, the Philippines and Latin America.

The significant Protestant numbers in parts of Africa, have much to do with past Colonialism. It would have been better if your chart broke things down by country, rather than region.

I have heard of some activity in Russia and Red China. Russia's a rather strange case, as Orthodoxy has enjoyed a resurgence. However, as many of the hierarchy were placed Reds, how do you know who to trust? Providing Bibles and the Gospel to those stuck in Red China is always welcome.

Sometimes I think the best use of Missionary resources would be to go to old Europe. The Swedes, Danes and Dutch have seemed to forgotten about Christianity altogether. Spain, France and Italy could use a refresher.

Poland seems to be doing fine but Guatemala and the Philippines could definitely use a heavy dose of Evangelical Protestantism.

there are 7000 islands in the Philippines and many have no access to a religious experience.

I hope he is being honest about this, if not its one hell of a line.

Face it, pleanty of gals would make it a personal task to make him “break his vow” now that they know he has it.

I’m sure all the tabloids are just waiting for him to make a mistake.

...as well as ESPN and the rest of the MSM! If he does, well, I can live with that and not fault him just as long as he stays out of trouble......which I suspect he will.

Maybe he can part the water but there's only one guy who ever walked on it and I'm certainly not holding Tebow up to THAT standard......LOL!

Actually I'm not holding him to any standard at all, he's pretty much proved himself to me. I'm just hoping he remains a good kid..

But the media likes to do that because they think it makes religious people look weird.

You're partially right. But it also provides an "Aha, gotcha ya hypocrite!" story if the young man should (shudder) ever be caught in a nightclub with a nubile maiden.........

Poland seems to be doing fine but Guatemala and the Philippines could definitely use a heavy dose of Evangelical Protestantism.

In your original post, you questioned whether there were hard numbers to back up my claim as to whether Protestant missionaries target countries that are predominantly Catholic. In this post, you have conformed it.

Guatemala and the Philippines do NOT need Protestant Evangelization. McKinley was infamous for saying something to that effect about the Philippines 100 years ago, and he'd be just as wrong now.

Frankly, what that would tend to bring, is tolerance and even promotion of artificial contraception, which would ultimately lead to legalized abortion. I have also seen evidence of Protestant missionaries in Mexico pretending to embrace Our Lady of Guadeloupe in order to appeal to the local population. What hypocrisy.

Chuck Norris wears a Tim Tebow T-Shirt!

Jack Bauer doesn't wear T-shirts so he opted for a Tebow branding iron on his backside.............

I agree with you, its not about religion...its about being obedient to God. He wants to know what’s in your heart more than anything.
