Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)

Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no “creature comforts.” But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor he’s called home for the last three years.

To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesn’t need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, it’s an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

Over-Saving for Retirement? Is it possible to “over-save” for retirement? Yes, I think so. At some point I like the idea of putting some money aside in taxable investments outside of retirement funds, to be accessed prior to traditional retirement age. (@The Simple Dollar)

In many neighborhoods they are frowned upon - one of the reasons I don’t like living in a neighborhood. I digress. If the Greate Generation has deteriorated to the point they spend what they get as fast as they can, after going through the depression and WWII, that’s pretty sad. Actually, all I saw yesterday were young people, mainly families.<<<

It did not take long for me to use up my savings on health tests and meds and oxygen machines.

Good advice.

I am amazed at the things the left believes, they do not have any common sense and really think the gov. will take care of them.

LA Fire Department shuts rescue units under cost-cutting plan
Daily News Wire Services
Updated: 08/04/2009 10:26:24 AM PDT

The Los Angeles Fire Department has begun shutting down rescue units and eliminating paramedic field supervisors as part a cost- cutting plan expected to increase emergency response time, it was reported today.

The plan goes into full effect Wednesday, when 15 fire trucks and six ambulances are pulled out of service daily on a rotating basis citywide, according to an article on the Los Angeles Times’ Web site.

Firefighters assigned to those units will be used to staff vacancies, which for years have been filled by calling in other employees on overtime.

As part of the effort to close a $56.5 million budget shortfall, three additional ambulances in Sylmar, Hollywood and East Hollywood were indefinitely taken out of service on Sunday, The Times reported. Staffed by firefighters for 12-hour periods, those ambulances were used to free up busy paramedic ambulances by responding to lower-level emergencies.

Also eliminated indefinitely were three slots for captains who supervise paramedics in the field and serve as emergency room liaisons, according to The Times.

Yup. Only a liberal would call a program 'successful' by virtue of the amount of money it spends. I've seen nothing that says how many jobs this money created. In fact, Rush said today that Obama is hiding the figures from it because it's Japanese cars that are selling, not GovernmentMoters cars.

From Eagles' link: In this video, Linda Douglass, the communications director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, addresses one example that makes it look like the President intends to "eliminate" private coverage, when the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

Rush played two clips today from the campaign: in one Obama states clearly that it will take time to eliminate private insurers and in another, he states he is for a single-payer plan.

Can't get much closer to what he really thinks than that.

The ones that are available here were not what I needed, so I do not have any insurance, except the part A, that will help if I go to the hospital to die.

And don’t believe the Walmart ads, for Scott took my prescriptions to them and they gave him a printout, $28.00 more than i pay to the small local drugstore.

The time is upon us, when the truth is so strange, that a little fiction would be welcome.

Obama’s plans are so bad that even the communist news articles are exposing him.

Thanks, but no thanks... Sickening enough that I, and each member of my family (you did too) have to pay $3.17 each so that situation could happen. Let alone the $6.35 additional that they are going to spend for us to be entertained with prize discounts on cars - Actually, I wouldn’t spend $9.52 to watch a demolition derby either...

Just think - every time they say just 1 billion, you lost another $3.17.... Now how much was the TARP program?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

is made with a lemon pudding mixture in a meringue crust.

4 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup sugar

Filling:
4 egg yolks, beaten
1/3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons grated lemon peel
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup heavy cream

Beat egg whites and salt to stiff foam. Gradually beat in cream of tartar and 1 cup sugar; continue beating until
stiff peaks form. Spread in greased 9-inch pie plate. Bake at 250° for 1 hour. Cool. In top of double boiler over simmering water, cook egg yolks, 1/3 cup sugar, lemon juice, water, and lemon peel until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; add butter and blend well. Cool filling. Whip cream until stiff peaks form; spread half of the
cream in bottom of cooled meringue crust. Top cream with lemon filling then spread with remaining whipped
cream. Chill thoroughly and serve.

Here is the Tupperware bread recipe that Yvonne is looking for.

Tupperware Bread

3 1/2 c. warm water
3 pkgs. of yeast
6 T. sugar
6 T melted butter
4 t. salt
2 eggs, beaten
10 c. flour

TIP: If you don’t have a Tupperware bowl, you can use a regular bowl and cover it with a dish towel. Let the dough
rise for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

1. Using your large Tupperware bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Add the sugar and melted butter. Stir in
salt and beaten eggs. Add the 10 cups of flour last.

2. Stir until thoroughly mixed (the dough will be sticky). Snap on the bowl’s cover and put in warm place until the
seal pops on the lid.

3. Turn out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and put into greased loaf pans. Cover pans
with a damp dish towel and let rise for 30 minutes.

4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until done. Cool on racks.

Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) Blockers (marketed as Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, Cimzia, and Simponi)

Audience: Rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, dermatologists

FDA notified healthcare professionals that it has completed its analysis of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers and has concluded that there is an increased risk of lymphoma and other cancers associated with the use of these drugs in children and adolescents. This new safety information is now being added to the Boxed Warning for these products. FDA has also identified new safety information related to the occurrence of leukemia and new-onset psoriasis in patients treated with TNF blockers. The current prescribing information for TNF blockers does contain a warning for malignancies, but does not specifically mention leukemia. FDA is also requiring updates to the current Medication Guide to help patients understand the risks associated with TNF blocker therapy. TNF blockers are approved for the treatment of one or more of a number of immune system diseases including juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, and ankylosing spondylitis.
