Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)

Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no “creature comforts.” But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor he’s called home for the last three years.

To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesn’t need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, it’s an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

Meridia (sibutramine hydrochloride): Follow-Up to an Early Communication about an Ongoing Safety Review

Audience: Cardiology and endocrinology healthcare professionals

FDA notified healthcare professionals that the review of additional data indicates an increased risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease using sibutramine. Based on the serious nature of the review findings, FDA requested and the manufacturer agreed to add a new contraindication to the sibutramine drug label stating that sibutramine is not to be used in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, including:

* History of coronary artery disease (e.g., heart attack, angina)
* History of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
* History of heart arrhythmias
* History of congestive heart failure
* History of peripheral arterial disease
* Uncontrolled hypertension (e.g., > 145/90 mmHg)

Patients currently using sibutramine should talk with their healthcare professional to determine if continued use of sibutramine is appropriate and discuss any questions they may have about their treatment.

Hello, doing fine, with rain.

I can’t get to the stores, so have not looked, but we did expect that there would be a shortage and most of this group ordered early.

I just noted a bunch of seed company links on this page, near the top that I posted a few days ago.

We rather thought that many would be planting gardens this year and last year, the seeds sold out early and even the reliable mail order houses were sold out.

Good luck and happy growing.

Sure are, they show up on page one, without their name used in the search, it is worth taking a quick look at the page here:

According to these, in 1998 they got caught smuggling their own illegals:

I was surprised to find a link to the cocaine story, since they are such close clinton friends:

WINSTON MID EAST ANALYSIS & COMMENTARY

January 21, 2010 Email: winston@winstonglobal.org Please disseminate & re-post. If you publish, send us a copy. Many of our articles appear in freeman.org; JewishIndy.com; gamla.org.il/english. Outgoing mail is virus-checked. To be removed from this list, please send your Email address.

ADVICE FROM AN ISRAELI AGENT ABOUT FUTURE TERRORISM
by an unnamed author forwarded with commentary Emanuel A. Winston, Middle East Analyst & Commentator

The following article entitled: “Advice from an Israeli Agent” is a powerful eye-opener with respect to radical Muslims’ plans for the next Terror attack in America.

Regrettably, I have been sounding this message for over 30 years (perhaps not as crisply as does Juval Aviv).

However, the Arabist State Department has failed its obligation as the “gate-keepers” to keep dangerous people out of America.

Their failure was embodied in the policies of several oil-connected Presidents, the oil interests of influential Multi-national oil companies and the State Department’s involvement with the Arab oil nations.

Getting a visa to enter the U.S. from Muslim nations was a guaranteed walk-through. There are 56 Muslim countries in the world - of which 23 are also Arab. I would add that second and third generations of Muslims who appear as loyal Americans but, have taken up “Jihad” (holy war for Islam) against America and Americans.

American universities are loaded with Muslims, many of whom just happen to take courses in physics, biology and chemistry - otherwise known as NBC (Nuclear, Biology and Chemistry) as in WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction).

These “skill-sets” have been very useful to their military, paramilitary and Terrorist proxies in their countries of origin and tricking host countries where they pose as friendlies.

It was just a matter of time before “sleeper cells” will be using synchronized attacks across America - like the coordination of the bombings of the American Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on August 7, 1998.

But, not to worry, President Barack Hussein Obama will reach out to the Muslim Terrorists - just as he is doing to Iran, Syria and their proxies: Hamas and Hezb’Allah. Do you feel safer?

Please read and re-read this article about Juval Aviv. I don’t know the author but I have seen it before and sent it forward. Some messages came back calling it a “hoax” and”Snopes” said it wasn’t true but, you can believe them or scan it with your own sense of what is possible, probable and what you should do about it for your own families, friends and the wider circle your lists can reach.

If Aviv’s rendition is a hoax, it’s a remarkably accurate prediction of what is happening right now. Keep in mind that in the last few years we have seen a ramping up of Muslims being caught preparing for attacks in America.

Please send it on to your Congressional Representatives, your local Media and the national/international Media. Who know, they may even begin to say Muslim and Terror in the same sentence instead of the wimpy words: “militant” or “extremist”.

COMMENTARY BY EMANUEL A. WINSTON
###
ADVICE FROM AN ISRAELI AGENT by ??

Juval Aviv was the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie ‘Munich’ was based. He was Golda Meir’s bodyguard, and she appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. In a lecture in New York City he shared Information that EVERY American needs to know — but that our government has not yet shared with us.

He predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O’Reilly show on Fox News stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O’Reilly laughed, and mocked him saying that in a week he wanted him back on the show.
Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred.
Juval Aviv gave intelligence (via what he had gathered in Israel and the Middle East) to the Bush Administration about 9/11, a month before it occurred. His report specifically said “They would use planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments.” Congress has since hired him as a Security consultant.
Now for his future predictions. He predicts the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur within the next few months. Forget hijacking airplanes, because he says terrorists will NEVER try and hijack a plane again as they know the people onboard will never go down quietly again. Aviv believes our airport security is a joke — that we have been reactionary rather than proactive in developing strategies that are truly effective.
For example:
1) Our airport technology is outdated. We look for metal, and the new explosives are made of plastic.
2) He talked about how some idiot tried to light his shoe on fire. Because of that, now everyone has to take off their shoes. A group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives. Now we can’t bring liquids on board. He says he’s waiting for some suicidal maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; at which point, security will have us all traveling naked!
Every strategy we have is reactionary.
3) We only focus on security when people are heading to the gates. Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport when/where people are checking in. It would be easy for someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they run to the restroom or get a drink, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets involved. In Israel, security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER the airport.
Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate. (i.e., Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, big cities (New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.) and that it will also include shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc., as well as, rural America this time. The hinterlands (Wyoming, Montana, etc.).

The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country (terrorists like big impact), involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas.

Aviv says terrorists won’t need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can simply valet park a car loaded with the explosives and walk away.

Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but that our U. S. Government does not want to alarm American citizens’ with the facts. The world is quickly going to become ‘a different place’, and issues like ‘global warming’ and political correctness will become totally irrelevant.

On an encouraging note, he says that Americans don’t have to be concerned about being nuked. Aviv says the terrorists who want to destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons.

They like to use suicide as a front-line approach. It’s cheap, it’s easy, it’s effective; and they have an infinite abundance of young militants more than willing to ‘meet their destiny’.

He also says the next level of terrorists, over which America should be most concerned, will not be coming from abroad. But will be, instead, ‘homegrown’, having attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. He says to look for ‘students’ who frequently travel back and forth to the Middle East.

These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans; but that we Americans won’t know/understand a thing about them.

Aviv says that, as a people, Americans are unaware and uneducated about the terrorist threats we will inevitably face. America still has only a handful of Arabic and Farsi speaking people in our intelligence networks, and Aviv says it is critical that we change that fact SOON.

So, what can America do to protect itself? From an Intelligence perspective, Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for intelligence. We need to, instead, follow Israel’s, Ireland’s and England’s hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration perspective as well as to pay attention to, and trust ‘aware’ citizens to help. We need to engage and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U. S. government continues to treat us, its citizens, ‘like babies’. Our government thinks we ‘can’t handle the truth’ and are concerned that we’ll panic if we understand the realities of terrorism.

Aviv says this is a deadly mistake.
Aviv recently created/executed a security test for our Congress, by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in Chicago, someone tried to steal the briefcase.

In comparison, Aviv says that citizens of Israel are so well ‘trained’ that an unattended bag or package would be reported in seconds by citizen(s) who know to publicly shout, ‘Unattended Bag!’

The area would be quickly & calmly cleared by the citizens themselves.
Unfortunately, America hasn’t been yet ‘hurt enough’ by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its citizens or for the government to understand that it’s their citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism.
Aviv also was concerned about the high number of children here in America who were in preschool and kindergarten after 9/11, who were ‘lost’ without parents being able to pick them up, and about our schools that had no plan in place to best care for the students until parents could get there. (In New York City, this was days, in some cases!)

He stresses the importance of having a plan, that’s agreed upon within your family, of how to respond in the event of a Terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children’s schools and demand that the schools too, develop plans of actions, just as they do in Israel.

Does your family know what to do if you can’t contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow. Aviv says that the U. S. government has in force a plan, that in the event of another terrorist attack, everyone’s ability to use cell phones, blackberries, etc., will immediately be cut-off, as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated.

How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot speak to each other? You need to have a plan. If you understand, and believe what you have just read, then you must feel compelled to send this to every concerned parent, guardian, grandparents, uncles, aunts, whomever.

Don’t stop there. In addition to sharing this via e-mail, contact and discuss this information with whomever it makes sense to. Make contingency plans with those you care about. Better that you have plans in place, and never have to use them, then to have no plans in place, and find you needed them.
If you choose not to share this, or not to have a plan in place, and nothing ever occurs — good for you! However, in the event something does happen, and even more so, if it directly affects your loved ones, then this e-mail will haunt you forever.

Telling yourself after the fact, “I should have sent this to so and so, but deleted it as so much trash from old Bill Jones, plus, I just didn’t believe it”, will not change anything. You were alerted, had the chance to do something, and instead of erring on the side of caution, you chose to disregard, if nothing else, a sensible, valuable warning.

Whew....
Well, last batch of second deer just out of the pressure canner. Now jars are pinging their sealing tune. A very nice sized prime doe.

Tomorrow I have about 14-15 pounds to make up into sausage (which I will freeze) and will be done!

Every time, I sort of dread getting into the whole process, and it gets weary sometimes, but once done it seems the optimism returns and the intense satisfaction of having all the extra food in what my wife calls my grocery store, that will store for years and years - makes up for it all and even though tired, almost wishing there was another one to jump into processing.

This time I am doing the hide, so will have that to work on for the next few weeks off and on. Plus it keeps me busy working the hide to make it supple - when I get to that stage. Last one I did, the dogs were really leery of it lying there on the den floor, even growled as they would sniff it, like it was an intruder in their territory.

Did get both good and bad information while processing the deer - the bad was a lifelong friend and distant relative who was two years my junior passed of a heart attack and kidney failure - and the good news is that the Amish store that I have to drive 30 miles to get to, is opening up a second bulk food store just 4 miles away! So, tomorrow will be funeral - a needed reminder that we none will depart this life alive.

In my free time over the last 10 days, have been also monitoring and participating in ham radio networks in the Health & Welfare messages to and from Haiti. Situation there is really bad - only now is there some twinkling of hope for the millions there who lost everything - including family members. Situation there was difficult to help on as there were only 142 licensed Ham’s for the country, and most of the active ones lost their radio gear in the quake and subsequent collapses of their homes. There were a number of volunteer Hams who have gone there and are assisting. Others were trying to get the message out before their batteries would die and they could rig up a way to recharge them or find a vehicle that would run and had gas to charge it. Quite a few messages through Father John who runs a Catholic Orphanage there, and whenever he could get power for his radio passed quite a bit of traffic. With 42-43 aftershocks, the children were afraid to even stay in the tents they had erected. Bless all those who are volunteering to help them!

Will try to stay in touch with y’all.

Well, Granny, thanks for the yogurt making info - it got me thinking that we hadn’t made any for the last couple of years, so I decided to try something new...

Last year I had gotten a presto 6 quart deep fat fryer/slow cooker/warmer/etc.. Well, I put water in it and stuck the thermometer in with it turned way down, and was able to set it to provide the perfect 100F temperature for making yogurt.

Right now I have a full gallon of yogurt in the works - will wrap it with a couple of towels and turn it off in a bit when I go to bed and tomorrow morning put it in the refrigerator.

Got lots of fruit canned that will be great with it... Peach, Apple, Blueberry, Rhubarb, Strawberries- maybe even watermelon rind.... Lots of varieties... can hardly wait to taste them. Lots and lots cheaper than the dinky store bought cups.

That would be very interesting, be sure to watch the site for that Disinformation post I yahooed you, for they have so much on the situation there.

I am so glad you got the deer, it will serve you well.

Yes, you should tan the hide, makes good strong clothing and lots of other things, like bags and baskets.

Deer Sausage, that sounds good this morning, with the ice and a little snow that I have.

Yogurt project update:

Worked like a charm!

This morning we came down to a pot full of great tasting yogurt. Actually, we all split a quart (mixed with frozen strawberries which chilled it nicely) before breakfast this morning...

Put the remaining 3 quarts into canning jars with re-used lids. It should be good for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator. (but it won’t last that long here).

LOL - you were reading my mind on the cheese. I have several boxes of rennet tablets that I hope still have active enzymes. Will have to try that when I get a bit of time.

>>>participating in ham radio networks in the Health & Welfare messages to and from Haiti.<<<

I actually did most of it with EchoLink and GlobalTuner on the computer which are linked to repeaters and in turn linked radios as well as the internet - voice and text channels of verified hams. They are about as close to FReepers as you can get outside of FR. Really resourceful great people.

>>>Deer Sausage, that sounds good this morning<<<

Actually, while my wife was dipping the yogurt and mixing the strawberries in, I was finishing adding the spices to my sausage. Of course you have to test some to see if it is tweaked about right, so we had some of that along with fresh from the hen eggs and whole wheat, blackstrap molasses and cinnamon pancakes, covered with homemade peach syrup. Since the spice was about right, I then stuffed it all in casings, packaged and froze it.

>>>Yes, you should tan the hide<<<

The hide is in a big plastic tub with sulfuric acid (battery acid) and water. Tuesday or Wednesday I will be scraping the hide and removing any silverskin, fat, etc.. This is the first time I have used this method, and it seems easier than the brain tanning or the oak tannin methods I have used before. Will report on it more as the process moves along.

>>>Have you heard from Vickie and the Eagle?<<<

Have not heard anything from either... Still keeping them in my prayers.

Additional FDA laboratory tests on the counterfeit product show that people may be taking 3-times the usual daily dose (or twice the recommended maximum dose) of sibutramine if they are following the dosing directions for Alli. Healthy people who take this much sibutramine can experience anxiety, nausea, heart palpitations, tachycardia (a racing heart), insomnia, and small increases in blood pressure. This excessive amount of sibutramine is dangerous to people who have a history of cardiovascular disease, and can lead to elevated blood pressure, stroke, or heart attack.

[The specific serotype of _Salmonella enterica_ is not stated in the
posting. As a dried, preserved meat, salami can be kept in the home for a
long time and, therefore, continue to be a potential hazard. - Mod.LL

A search of ProMED-mail’s archives using “salami” as a title word finds
only 2 references — one to trichinellosis [Trichinellosis, salami -
Argentina: (SFE) 20080722.2214] and one to VTEC [E. coli, VTEC, salami
recall - USA (Western) & Canada 19991127.2098]. - Mod.SH]
