ping?
I’m guessing the first film was pretty good, no?
The last one didn’t do all that well — less than 100 million domestic and it probably cost more than that to make and market it. Between foreign receipts (apx. 100 million) and DVD sales It will make a few bucks but you need solid numbers (north of 200 million domestically) to make a franchise.
They might take another shot at it, but I am hearing that no one wants to work with Crowe for any price. The fact all his latest films have bombed doesn’t help.
I wonder if he isn’t financing a lot of this one himself to try to get back on the winning track.
I really liked that movie. The little “jam session” at the end was kind of cool.
Good, I enjoyed the first one.
They’ll have to do some work on Surprise. She has been going to rot in San Diego. Nevertheless, there’s not a moment to lose.
The trouble with trying to do another is, where to start? Master & Commander was cobbled together from 3 or 4 different books. It was an OK movie, but overall it was disappointing to a great many fans of the Aubrey/Maturin series.
YES!
It was an excellent movie.
I want him to catch that French man-o-war.
Duke it out in the Magellan Straits.
That is good news. I’ve seen very few movies since that one came out that I really went out of my way to see...or wanted to.
Oh, I’m so happy! What a great piece of news to start the day. This is fantastic. Crowe ought to be legally compelled to make movies of all the books in the series and then some more.
This must be the one where the “Crew gets Gay”.....I don’t recall seeing a woman in the first film....
Loved the story line in the film but not too crazy about Crowe. Something about his screen presence just bothers me. Think it is a undercurrent of arrogance. Just me I guess.
I thought it was a great movie myself. The end of the battle moved me to tears.
I’d pay money to see it.
As for Russel Crowe....South Park did him best.

First of all, though it cost $150M in production, its worldwide gross was $212M, so it was a moderate success. Importantly, it made more money outside of the US. And being nominated for 10 Oscars, with 2 wins, doesn’t hurt either.
Some have speculated that it made *less* money in the US, because the plot was changed from the British chasing an American ship, to them chasing a French ship. Not because it would be slamming America, but because Americans have no real objection to not being the center of attention, and the movie would have been more interesting to them.
Importantly, the projected sequel would inherently cost much less in production, because The Reverse of the Medal mostly takes place on land. However the ship is well maintained, and ready to be used again as needed.

I loved that movie !!!!
That movie sucked. Had some strange cadence and the shots were to tight.
I should sue to get the two of my life back.
Other than that, it was a great movie.
The first movie was seriously cool on DVD, for the next one I’ll see it in the theater and get the Blu-ray.
