Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

Posted this is a reply but thought it needed to be discussed more thoroughly. Grieving over Sarah is fine, but let's admit the political realities of the situation and move on to more fruitful endeavors.

I agree. You can’t quit as President just because the press is roughing you up.

You might be right. OTOH, having the nickname “The Swimmer” has not seemed to really hurt Ted Kennedy in any substantive way. He very nearly unseated a sitting president (Carter) at the Democrat Convention in 1980. The rules are different for Democrats, I grant you.

Show me how “Swimmer” has hurt Ted Kennedy in the least.

And what is your expertise, other than being able to repeat the echo chamber talking point.

Pray for America and Gov Palin

It forced Ted to drop out of the 1980 Democrat primary.

Something else we need to get over is that the GOP is also gone as a National Party. Mehgan McCain? Gimme a break!

The artillery is not being removed from the field, it is being moved to higher ground which affords greater flexibility and destructive firepower onto the enemy lines.

Better to step down and let someone on the ground run the state versus non-stop campaigning in which she is never in Alaska.

How long did Obama campaign and never show up for work?

You are entitled to your opinion. But you don’t need to elevate it above the VANITY it is. You have been here long enough to know better.

The political reality is such that times right now are unlike any we’ve witnessed in recent history - the old rules don’t apply anymore. “Obama” politics have negated that. The good-old-boys in the GOP have shown themselves to be utterly impotent against it. Instead of fighting the other side - they have joined them.

Sarah is an outsider. Sarah does things her way. Sarah is popular with the people. The pundits (on both sides) hate her because THEY haven’t made her what she is. THE PEOPLE HAVE. We’re playing a whole new ballgame here.

We totally expect the media to denounce her as “finished” - that’s part of their game plan, but I’m willing to bet that Sarah is a better chess player than them. They are so “yesterday” and that ain’t working anymore.

The first political reality is that the only way you can organize and run a Presidential campaign is to set up shop in the "48".

Anchorage Alaska is just about 3,400 miles away from DC.

That's an 8 hour trip to and fro ~ no way you can do stuff in AK and do stuff in the "48".

Sarah improved her position immensely by dumping what had become a rinky dink job in a very underpopulated part of the world.

Frankly the ethics law there needs some serious revision or the only people Alaskans are going to find willing to run for public office are professional thieves and lesbian political activists ~ or maybe somebody willing to murder their opponents in their beds.

I’d guess that anybody who could rally the conservative base as she had, would be attacked just as much. I hope you’re wrong. We need to quit putting forth milk-toast candidates.
