Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

If Obama can quit during his first term, so can Palin.

On election day, 52% of the country thought that an inexperienced, first-term Senator who had never held a real job in his life was prepared to the POTUS.

Excellent point. And every time a lib dares spew garbage about Palin not having enough experience, this MUST be repeated.

Nice lib debating tactic.

That was, wasn't it? Kudos to you for spotting and identifying it!

I think you are correct. In my opinion too many people placed too high of expectations on her and that was neither fair or right. There is no conservative messiah, and until conservatives admit to that fact we are not going to be able to get on with the nasty business necessary to take our country back. For a number of years I kept wondering when a modern day George Washington would show up to lead the way, but this last election made me realize that what we need is Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Mason, Hancock, Adams, Warren, and countless others. Sarah Palin can surely be one of the many needed, but she is not just the one.

>>> I voted for Sarah Palin, John McCain was in the way, IMO! <<<<

Same here. It was very difficult to mark my ballot for McQueeg. Palin helped make it palatable.

I would have quit the GOP, if I had belonged to the GOP. And in Virginia we don’t even have party registration, so that wasn’t an option either.

I think many of us are hoping that Palin will start some kind of grassroots conservative movement. I don’t care whether it’s with the GOP or not.

You have to remember, Obama is the Messiah the media has been looking for since JFK (since Clinton got caught and ruined it for them).

They are so aligned with Obama they can’t let him fail!

"On election day, 52% of the country thought that an inexperienced, first-term Senator who had never held a real job in his life was prepared to the POTUS."

I don't agree with the way people felt on election day, nor do I pretend to understand precisely why they felt the way they did. But, you can't deny that they did indeed feel that way. And in politics, that's what really counts - the public's perception is the political reality.

With this resignation, I don't see the larger public's perception of Palin improving, at least in the next few years. Don't shoot the messenger.

Yes she did Paulycy...In the last paragraph of her Independence Day message she spells out her goals very clearly.

I have to step away but I'll do my homework and get back to you. This is important.

I do believe that whatever she said in her announcement she is going to need to make another announcement to make her purpose more concrete and it might be awhile before we see that next announcemnt. She gets to control the timing now. That is a big advantage to her and I hope she uses it to the fullest.

“It forced Ted to drop out of the 1980 Democrat primary.

No it didn’t. It was his interview with Roger Mudd that did it - the one where he responded incoherently when Mudd asked him why he wanted to be President.”

I haven’t been on in a long while, but reading this I just had to say that it could be that Ted didn’t want to end up like John and Bobby. He could effect much more of his agenda as a lifetime Sentor than a two term President who would be a sitting duck as a Kennedy. Bravery has never been Teddy’s strong suit. He is the “Cowardly Lion” of the Senate in my opinion.

you said: We have a crusade to fight and we need a fighter to lead it. Sarah Palin has taken herself out of contention as a fighter. We have to move.

fine, go find someone else and if SP gets the nomination in 2012 after a very effective 3 years of speaking and campaigning, you will support her, correct?

I would have voted for any R put up Zero is so bad. What I won’t do is be so dismissive of a candidate with obvious good qualities as SP.

the damning with faint praise from too many here is either a sign of rhino, DU, or at best eccentric erratic rambling conservative.

Why so dismiss SP at least until your white knight appears on the horizon?

Amen, sister. The long knives at FR (and the MSM) that want to protect the oligarchy have come out for the killing blow. But I’m convinced that Sarah Palin has sidestepped all of them. I don’t know exactly what her plans are, but I’m still praying that she ditches the GOP and comes out on the national stage, both guns blazing.

Having gone head to head with these anti-Palin FR posters, since McCain chose her, I recognize many of the FR names.

This is NOT a new revelation about Palin they all of a sudden have had. They have been against her from the start when she knocked their pathetic RINO candidate off the radar screen.

Well I don't know if this was good move or bad. I certainly don't think it has to be the end of anything. I listened to her resignation speech and did think it kind of rambled but then again have you ever heard Obama give a unscripted address, pretty bad.

I hope this isn't the end and her reasons for this move make sense to me and will donate money for her to carry on and hopefully wage a grass roots campaign to get our country back.

What has always amazed me though is how much the establishment (right, left and middle) has hated her. Even the (so called) conservative bloggers have been dumping on her. So if she can garner that kind of response in just "quitting" she must a real force.

In the last election I didn't vote for her or McCain I voted against Obama which is never a good reason. I hope she gives me and the country a reason to vote for her in a large way. Of course Obama and the Democrats are working hard to make sure anyone could beat them in the next cycle, let's hope it happens.

Fine, y’all can have Mitt Romney or whatever progressive Rep that you throw out there. The game has changed and you’re still playing by the old rules.
