Aztec temple promises to yield one of antiquity’s great treasures

Archaeologists working amid the smog and din of Mexico City may be on the verge of unlocking an extraordinary time capsule.

The leaders of a team exploring a site opened up by earthquake damage believe that they have found the first tomb of an Aztec ruler. If they are right the site may yield one of the great treasures of antiquity, the sort of haul that fires the imagination of people far beyond academic circles.

Whoa boy!

My mother used to sing that song, "The Old Cattle Call," to me when I was a baby.

Probably.

If they were using fired clay tablets then from a historical point of view we would have a much better chance of finding legible records.

Vegetable matter tends to decay relatively rapidly in the damp.

Of course they could have a writing system like the Inca had with the quipu. In which case our chances of ever reading it, even if it survived, are somewhere between slim and none.

FYI: I use electromagnetic imaging equipment to locate bottles and artifacts often tossed in old 1800’s outhouse pits.

...

We found some of the bottles pictured on this site, BUT, NONE OF THE GOLD!.....Reg

Here's a hint - people don't throw away gold. Look in a place other than a trash dump if you are looking for money.

However, people's trash from over 100 years ago can be treasure of a different kind.

Actually people DO or at least DID hide gold in the outhouse pit......few would look for it there obviously. There have been gold coins found by bottle diggers on a few occasions in these pits.

“As opposed to which other option?”

Well, you know. The option where things are fun and interesting and embracing and inclusive that hope and change is going to bring. Nothing unpleasant ever happens in that option. Call it the “Big Rock Candy Mountain” option.

Someone else? You can't do it? You can always tell the DUmmy trolls trying to undermine the forum with their denigration of self-reliance.

Okay, I'm back on my meds now.

LOl! I’ve been looking for the old privy pit that went with our 200 year old farmhouse. I know there has to be several. There’s a huge old apple tree at the bottom of our yard. I figure it’s under there. The last privy was still standing when my family moved into this house in 1967. There was an inside toity put in sometime in the 1930’s, but I figure it was still in use at least until the 1950’s. The mine foreman lived here (mines went in around 1906) and he probably wanted to use the outside necessary until he got washed up. Anyway, the property this sits on is now approximately 150 X 65 feet, but the likely spot for it is straight out the back door about 40 feet - right where that apple tree is standing!
