Archaeologists working amid the smog and din of Mexico City may be on the verge of unlocking an extraordinary time capsule.

The leaders of a team exploring a site opened up by earthquake damage believe that they have found the first tomb of an Aztec ruler. If they are right the site may yield one of the great treasures of antiquity, the sort of haul that fires the imagination of people far beyond academic circles.

If they find a couple of codex's it would be dancing and singing time.

That would be fantastic!

They’re dead and buried. Why dig them up to satisfy
our curiosity?

FYI: I use electromagnetic imaging equipment to locate bottles and artifacts often tossed in old 1800’s outhouse pits.

The equipment has been used by others to locate gold caches left behind after the Japanese occupation of the Phillippines.

We found some of the bottles pictured on this site, BUT, NONE OF THE GOLD!.....Reg

Imagine finding a new one, still intact?

The excitement is over the fact that it hasn't been robbed.

The only guy in Mexico City to not have been robbed.

It is enough to make you whimper.

They have found some in graves but they had been too badly damaged to be read.

I still think most of our history is under water, where humans used to live before the glaciers melted, and anything written on paper definitely won't survive that.

:-(

How many tombs did that Axtec ruler have?

The tomb is most likely that of an Aztec ruler who died in 1502.

Since when is that "antiquity?"

Was Luther a product of "antiquity?"

Dunno. Never studied Aztec measuring devices.

Digging around in 1800’s human waste isn’t most peoples image of a “treasure hunter” but I have found jewelry, pistols, crockery, coins, and railroad items that were either lost or tossed in an old outhouse pit.

Here is a link to our website: Have got a few images of our Wickes, Montana ghost town dig from last summer posted.
