Weekly Gardening Thread
Memorial Day is Monday, May 25 it is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies. Moina Michael
Moina Michael, author of the poem above, adopted the custom of wearing a red poppy in memory of the sacrifices of war and also as a symbol of keeping the faith.
So buy a poppy, then grow some poppies. They are easy to grow and will self-sow so that each year you will have gorgeous poppies in your garden, or where ever the wind has blown the seed.

This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.
If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.

Please also add me.
We have about 40 hundred gazillion million daylilies that I need to split again. If any Freepers want some and will reimburse postage, I’ll be happy to share.

Checked on the garden yesterday. Radishes are done and will be harvested today. Chard outer leaves are ready enough for a small app type dish, squash blossoms stuffed with cheese will be the other app. Eggplant needs insecticidal soap applied, but rain is here.
Tomatoes, beans and peppers are all in bloom or forming small fruit. Herb garden is kicking.

Have been eating fantastic tomato sandwiches on white bread with mayo, salt, & pepper for over a month now. Great crop this year in Florida.

Do those need full sun?
I love those but have never tried planting any for fear of my black thumb. I’m trying to improve on my growing skills.

I know you folks don't get a great deal of rain in Florida, how often and how much do you water your tomatoes?

We have had a couple of zukes already and a few strawberries. My eggplants needed the soap treatment last week, they are doing great! Peppers, tomatoes and cukes doing great!

AFM, they are happy in full sun, but will do OK in shade.
They’re quite hardy here in SW Ohio — you can’t kill ‘em.
