AppleiPhoneApps ^ | 5/19/09 | Rob

Posted on 05/20/2009 1:46:28 PM PDT by Cyropaedia

Recently we were approached by a source who is closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team. The source was willing to provide detailed information on the specs and release date of the next generation iPhone.

We have checked the source’s credentials to the best of our ability and at this point deem the source as reputable. Of course we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the source’s claims since Apple will neither confirm nor deny any future product releases, including if a new phone will even be released! Many of the specifics proposed by our source have been discussed in recent weeks, but many intriguing details revealed by the source have yet to be reported. Here are the specifics:

32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities
$199 and $299 price-points to be maintained
3.2 Megapixel camera
Video recording & editing capabilities
Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
OLED screen
1.5X The battery life
Double the RAM and processing power
Built-in FM transmitter
Apple logo on the back to light up
Rubber-tread backing

Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.

I love my iPhone, and it looks like it’s just going to get better.

I wish they allowed tethering, though!

Anyone know how to download songs from the phone to your computer library?

As in, I got a bunch of songs from my CDs (yes, I am old), had them on the computer, downloaded on iPhone, and now said computer died a sad death.

I bought a new computer, and would like to download the songs from iPhone to new computer.

Seems it no-worky in that direction.

Why are you wasting time on this primitive interface?

By now, I am sure Apple has a direct high-speed Bluetooth brain implant.

I was looking into getting an iPhone, but when I started looking at it I found it was under-specced compared to devices already on the market. This doesn't really change that.

3.2 Megapixel camera

Several phones come with 8MP now.

Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.

Aka "Geo-tagging", which is also a standard feature on other GPS equipped phones.

Nothing very exciting here other than the Apple hype.

Check out the LG Arena or the Samsung i8910 HD

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are...

The FM transmitter will be cool, as it will allow you to play the iPhone through your car speakers without having to purchase the third party thing. I'm sticking with my current setup, though, couple of years before I'll need to upgrade.

AT&T won’t let them.

I do that almost every day, right now.

Get the AOL Radio application and tune in to WPHT (It is a Philadelphia station). You get Rush right over the AT&T network. When I got it AOL Radio was free...

What the heck do you need an AM tuner for? Download the iheartradio app. You can stream Rush’s show in that app, just by tuning in to a station carrying him. I use Miami’s 610 WIOD.

iheartradio is probably a better alternative to AOL Radio, but it’s personal preference.

Several phones come with 8MP now.

And they don't take better photos, because their lenses don't allow it. Upping the megapixel count is a textbook example of a diminishing return.

Aka "Geo-tagging", which is also a standard feature on other GPS equipped phones.

iPhone already does geotagging, it's been doing that since the 2.0 software came out. The feature being described involves the phone knowing exactly what direction it's being pointed in at a specific location on the globe. This would have specific applications: for example, a tourism app can use GPS plus the compass to tell the user what landmark he's looking at.

Nothing very exciting here other than the Apple hype.

Nothing very insightful here other than the usual uninformed anti-Apple junk.

Gee, unless I can attach a Canon AF IS tele-zoom to it, the pixel count doesn't impress me. A crappy lens on a high MP sensor is still going to give you a crappy picture.

That and I hate those small form factor, compose picture on LCD, quick shot type cameras anyway.
