An Egyptian archaeological team has found prehistoric fishing gear, sewing equipment and jewellery all made from animal bones, as well as pottery and coins, near an oasis south of Cairo, officials said on Tuesday.
>
"During excavation, the mission found antiquities from the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman and Islamic periods," Hawass said.
The team also found a rare block which dates back to 3150 BC depicting the mythical leader known as the Scorpion King, as well as colourful mosaic plates with engravings of the Fatimid caliph Al-Zafir.

I didn’t think the scorpion king was a “myth”- didn’t they just find his tomb?

Not going to stay upright much longer than it takes Bubba to swill a twelve pack. They never know how to swim, either.

I don’t know about the Scorpion King. I would have thought that a drug lord. ;-)

You might be able to help me here SC. My sisters husband found this in the woods behind their home (NNE Pa up arounds Friendsville, Pa). What is it? I haven't a clue. It's probably nothing to do with archaeology. Probably more geology - but maybe you have some ideas? It is a rock. About 2 lbs. About 9 inches in length, and five inches wide and 2 inches thick. Odd hole in the center. Maybe some of your GGG list will have an idea about this?
Thanks!

If Zahwi Hawass had anything to do with verifying this it is automatically suspect.

LOL! “Coprolite” was my first thought too! My sister is calling it the ‘big turd’ now! lol!
It looks like there’s a worm on the edge of the hole, and a small snake curled up inside. It’s hard to tell from that picture. My sister e-mailed the pic to me, and I saved it to my editing program and enlarged it.
I suggested that she take it to the local university geology dept.
