Star Trek trivia!

Crowds are swarming to see the new, "rebooted" Star Trek movie. But there are many facts about the popular epic that most casual fans don't know:

Star Trek featured many memorable cast members and characters over the years.
Star Trek had several incarnations. The most popular series of the franchise was Star Trek: SG1. The least popular? Star Trek: 1999.

The first interracial kiss on American television was between Capt. Kirk and Lt. Sulu.

The original show only broadcast 13 episodes before it was canceled by Fox.

The starship "Enterprise" was named after the first Space Shuttle.

Show creator Gene Roddenberry later founded Scientology.

How did the ship's Communications Officer get her name? "Uhura" is the Swahili word for "Miniskirt."

The "T" in "James T. Kirk" is short for "T. J. Hooker".

For the last season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Dempsey) was half-Borg, half-Bjorn.

The original show was actually an allegory for Mormonism.

In the first season, Dr. Spock was a pediatrician.

Avery Brooks, a.k.a. Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, had a surprise pop hit in 2000 with "The Thong Song".

In one seldom-seen episode, Capt. Kirk was played by George Lazenby.

The ship's computer was originally voiced by Mel Blanc, who popularized the catchphrase "Bidi-bidi-bidi, let's trek Kirk!"

Among dedicated fans — or "Trekkiers" — one of the most heated debates is which was the best Lt. Uhura: Persis Khambatta or Kirstie Alley?

For the original transporter, crewmembers entered an old British "police box".

The most popular episode in Star Trek history was "The Trouble with Ewoks".

In the show pilot, light sabers couldn't be set to "stun".

The only franchise series never to make it out of development was "ST: POS"

The most popular episode in Star Trek history was "The Trouble with Ewoks".

Stupid Ewoks. Breeding like rats.

I'd have sprayed Raid on the Quadrotriticalia grain.

Not really. Fits right in with the rest of the malapropisms.

Who knew that Wanda Sykes hated Star Trek too? Maybe she she’s mad because she wanted wanted to play Uhura?

Here’s one: When Gene Roddenberry was developing Star Trek he mandated there be no time travel plots.

In the new movie they went back in time and COMPLETELY rewrote the Star Trek universe. This is nothing more than vandalism IMO.

And yes I know it’s just a movie.

There might actually be a point to the column. This Star Trek movie revised EVERYTHING about the star trek universe.

>>>The first interracial kiss on American television was between Capt. Kirk and Lt. Sulu. <<<

This was also notable because it was immediatley followed by Mr. Spock’s very, first use of the phrase, “Highly illogical.”
