Please excuse my accent.
Is that just me or did I get the story wrong? How many war ships do you need and FBI terrorist experts do you need to take over a dead in the water dinghy, 2 pirates and a hostage? OK I realize that the pirates could shoot the hostage.
Ar we going to send salves or shoot the dinghy with a canon? Sorry..I have a hard time not to laugh with that image but seriously...Or send the whole army, planes etc.. to fly around that dinghy? Or negotiate with these morons, knowing that they have no word anyway?
What about sending 2 good divers under the dinghy, pick the butt of the pirates, turn over the dinghy and get the hostage? I sailed for 12 years in dangerous waters...the whole story, I mean since they are in the dinghy, makes me really scratch my head.
Any other suggestions which could help our guys solve that problem? I am a bit lost here.
Again, I am certainly missing something important like - does that incident involves Russia or Iran or nukes or something?
Seems that it is just me..
Put a sniper in an OH-58 about 1200 meters away at night. A .50BMG round through each pirate’s torso and then send in the RIBs full of SEALS. Problem solved.
Or should we just sit down to tea and try to use diplomacy?
Silly, we might hurt someone... Obama can't have that.
Glen Beck is talking about that.
Why the hell does the Navy have to call in the FBI hostage negotiator to do their job?
Ooops. Never mind. It is the PC Navy now. I just forgot.
The FBI has zero authority. The USCG has legal jurisdiction in international water world wide on US flag vessels and vessels where the US has received a letter of no objection.
Piracy is classified a crime against humanity, however, and as such all nations have legal jurisdiction to prosecute. As such, those pirates are dead meat in any country that deems it necessary to kill those bastards.
Flying the US flag on your vessel buys you squat any more. Being a MUSLIM pirate? Priceless.
I'm no expert, but since it's international waters, I would think there is no "authority" except for maritime laws.
Since the pirates are well, pirates (outside the maritime laws) does it really matter how they die???
I’m sure the Captain’s poor wife is amused.
This country is going from most hated to mostly pathetic real fast.
I certainly did not mean to make fun of the family and I fully understand how the Captain’s family must feel right now. I was simply pointing out, and they certainly are thinking the same way we are, the stupidity of the situation.
Right off the top the lifeboat is anything but a dinghy. As I understand it’s an enclosed boat that can carry something like 30 passengers. Being enclosed it’s unlikely that they can see the captain or the terrorists let alone get a shot.
No harm, no foul. Expect a lot of things coming from the Obama admin to be *different*.
More than the pirates
:-)
I suppose that the FBI is there to arrest the crew members of the hijacked ship for fighting back. What else would you expect from an American hating metrosexual muslim POTUS?
Otherwise, it makes sense to me that -- if there are only 2 pirates -- that you get a couple of snipers and count to 3. Cruise on over and pick up the captain. Sink the dingy. Guess that's why I'm not in charge.
It might have something to do with the fact that the 'life' boat is covered and they can't see what is happening.
I want obama to fail in his agenda, but I sure don't want the hostage killed because of my hate for obama.
At Waco, they gave up trying to negotiate and decided to make a suicidal man crack instead. Think they’ll try to get the pirates to go for “suicide by cop” here?
I thought that the captain goes down with his ship? Surrender to pirates and board their vessel as a hostage?
>>>I’m thinking it is not authority to negotiate, but the negotiating skills in a hostage situation that these folks are looking for.
I think you are right. This would be similar to a case where a US embassy is bombed and we send FBI agents to investigate. They have these skills that other federal agencies do not.
