With their racing budgets deemed unnecessary expenditures, GM and Chrysler are ordered to cease racing operations at the end of the season.

So far Car and Driver and another article from Autospies.com:
He might as well go ahead and ban all pro sports, NFL,MLB, NBA and everything else because almost all the states accepted the handouts! I hope he enjoys his 4 years!!
So very true! I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I have to go to work tomorrow while I still have a job, so perhaps I should just go to sleep instead...
Sump’n funny going on. The link goes to article 7 of 210. If you push “next” you go to article 7 of 209. Hit “previous” and the NASCAR article is not there anymore. And there are still only 209 articles. Hmmm...
I read a few of the comments after the artice and people were slamming NASCAR fans, saying things along the line of “It’s about time they outlawed this red-neck sport”.
Whether or not this story is true or not, it is scary that some folks would be HAPPY that the Government would dictate (or even care) what some of the American people consider sport.
NASCAR fan or not, we can not let this (or any) Government have this much control.
Sadder yet, some fools think that the Government should have that exact authority.
If Americans really feel this way about NASCAR (or any sport), they have the God-given right to vote with their very own pocket books (as long as the so-called U.S. Government hasn’t raided the pocket book too far).
This moron knows nothing about marketing, which makes sense because he knows nothing about business. His background is in socialism/marxism and goverment strong arming.
I’ve seen it reported elsewhere, but I still suspect April 1 joke.
Well, I’m on Eastern time, so it’s ALMOST April 1...but not quite. ;)
‘Night!
Obama can’t kill NASCAR. . . he’s cruisin for a bruisin.
ADVERTISING is what NASCAR is all about. Obambi must think those are real Chevy’s out there off the showroom floor.
GM May not survive anyway, but NASCAR will. When Winston cup got canned, it was a minor ripple in NASCAR......and 2 years later all was normal again.
Yeah based on this text it is a joke. GM and Chrysler cars will continue to “exist” in races as long as the teams find sponsors. My guess is they just buy a block, add the other parts, pistons, cranks, etc and most of the stuff is not factory anyway.
Yup, out here in deep-blue northern California the largest single sporting event is the Dodge/Save-Mart 350. The Bay Area isn’t exactly NASCAR country, but this move would upset a lot of businessfolk around here.
Does no one remember that during the campaign, possibly about a year ago, there was news that Obama was “flirting” with the idea of being a “sponsor” of a Nascar car? It was seen to be some kind of novel campaign move, fraught with dangerous possibilities though, so they scrapped it. Another thing that makes me believe it’s an April Fool’s joke..
April 1, xxxx
Yes. A good joke.
Someone Recruit some brothers from tha hood fer NASCAR drivers.
We uns gonna hafta play tha Race card on BHO If’n he don’t change his mind.
Well, if so, the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, and Rocky Mountain News have all been taken in by it.
As were many millions of Americans.
He is a complete joke.
I considered the possibility that this was a joke, but except for the fact that it’s April 1st, is there any suggestion of artifice in the tone or tenor of the article? It reads like a fairly sober news article to me. Does real news stop just because it’s April Fools’ Day?
Click next and previous on the story bars and the story isn’t there.
I don’t get that. It goes in numerical order for me and nothing’s missing. Every day there’s more CRAP we are supposed to put up with from this MF.
This is getting way past the ridiculous.
