This morning, just as the sun was peeking over the mountain, I opened the window slats at my kitchen window.
There, not four feet from the house, were 14 javelina, eating spilled seed under the bird feeders!
I know the picture is not too clear - but it had to be taken through screen - because of the glare on the window.
At least this will give you an idea what kind of critters we have to deal with, up here in the high desert.

That’s 14 more Javelina than what I saw all weekend long out near Florence.
I must be doing something wrong...
Anyway, I love your spectacular views, yorkie. Honest, one of these days we’re going to come back for another visit.

Thanks, Jinxy! Look forward to seeing you again, and meeting your better half!
Here is what I saw from the same window, less than a month ago:

Javelina are cool, as long as they are a good distance from humans. I used to throw out chicken scratch for them, at 6pm every evening. I swore they must have worn watches, because they always showed up, at 6 on the dot.
One night, I was a little late, tossing out the scratch, and the boar of the herd almost broke in my door. It was then, that I decided they will have to get their own food from now on.
Their fangs are razor sharp, and some people that have gotten too close were seriously injured.

Great picture, Yorkie.
It is amazing that they come right up to your house. Thank you for sharing the picture. It was nice to see the type of wildlife that is in your area.
Happy Thursday. Have a Terrific Musical Day.

I used to hunt them on a ranch down in Texas with a 10mm handgun. very ‘exciting’
I have also hunted larger hog with a medieval boar spear!
(That’s so exciting you nearly change the color of your pants!)
Hey All
I need some test readers for my ‘action’ books. I send you a PDF file to read and comment on. Any one interested in reading some books on the computer? If anyone is interested, just PM me with your email and I’ll send you a list to pick from.

Did you cook what you bagged? I have heard that javelina is not very tender or tasty.

Like venison, soak overnight in Italian Dressing to remove most of the wild taste. Bake on elevated rack in pan to drain off excess fat.
