The mechanics, IMHO, are irrelevant. For example, no one thinks IVF babies don’t have immortal souls, and the mechanics there are the same (by a dramatically lesser degree of complexity, of course).
The Jewish answer is, of course they have a “soul” — an immortal part -— all Creation has an immortal part.
The question is sticker if: (1) that soul is made in the image of G-d and (2) does that soul lack awareness of good and evil -— i.e., is this a “pre-Fall” creation.

That is what I never got. If they do clone people and animals, pretty much anything, does God give it a soul? That would make a good movie. A bunch of soul-less demons walking around, but you can’t tell the difference. Freaky huh?

We are alone because our ancestors killed off all other human competitors, such as the Neanderthals, in anger. We have unnatural intelligence, far in excess of the natural need to find food and shelter, because tribal warfare slowly but without limit raises the bar beyond the natural level. We evolved so fast, and seemingly with missing links, because war is much faster than natural selection. And unlike natural selection, the winner of tribal warfare completely kills off or assimilates the tribe with inferior genetics or culture.
Modern humans are not the product of natural selection, but of man-made filtration. And what it means to be human is not anywhere as pretty as leftists want to think.
Don't bring back the Neanderthals, and don't outlaw guns.
Maybe the octuplet mom could be persuaded to have a litter of Neanderthalings.
Democrats will love it. A brand new oppressed minority to pander to.
