LAKE FOREST, Calif. - Jan. 27, 2009 - WD (NYSE: WDC) today announced the first 2 terabyte (TB) hard drive - the world's highest capacity drive and the latest addition to WD's popular, environmentally friendly, cool and quiet, WD® Caviar® Green hard drive family. This new 3.5-inch platform is based on WD's industry-leading 500 GB/platter technology (with 400 Gb/in2 areal density) with 32 MB cache, producing drives with capacities of up to 2 TB.

Now I know why the Seagate 1.5 Terabyte drive is going for $129 at Newegg and Fry's.
I’m sure I’ll be investing in one of those soon. :D
The 1TB WD Caviar Green model I have has been pretty stable but it does get hot. I’ll wait until they get under $100 like when I bought mine. Probably in the summer.
That can hold a lot of... music.
Those hard drives keep getting bigger and I keep filling them up... LOL...
Not to mention....porn.
Ooh ahhhh. Now if only DVR manufacturers would actually put these big drives on them instead of, IMO, their pathetic current offerings. I would actually bother to purchase one.
It’s a dead end. Who would want really big hard drives like this? Google says the PC is dead and everyone will be keeping their data at Google.

</ not-sarcasm! Really a straight-faced innocent comment! Srsly!>
I didn’t want to say it.
I paid $119 for my FreeAgent 1TB external around Christmastime from Frys, love it. I hope they drop to around $50 so I can stock up.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Belay my last.
Not enough porn to fill up a TB. Oh wait.
4 or 5 of these and you could backup the whole internet to your computer.
Allah Aqbahr,

LOL!
In related news, Microsoft has announced that the new version of Windows will take 1t of disk space.
Sheesh. I just took stock of the various machines my family has attached to the home network. I came up with 2.4 TB of total storage. However, my primary backup is a 500 GB NAS that currently has about 65 GB of assorted music, family photos, homework, etc. on it. (which is backed up to a separate 250 GB drive in another machine) Going to be a while before I can justify one of those 2 TB beasts... Yet the geek in me wants one...sigh But I want a new 9mm more...
