There is a lot of discussion tonight about the plane that made an emergency landing in the Hudson River, but so far I haven't heard anyone talk about the fact that it essentially took the same route it would have if it had intended to crash into the Empire State Building.
Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Miracle on the Hudson.
the birds were making a dry run
I just did. I was watching some guy on CNN (yeah, I know...) talk about watching it from his office window, knowing that something was not quite right, and it occurred to me that some others might have been watching the same thing unfold with mounting terror.
I am sure we will hear about those eyewitness accounts.
Canadian Geese — FOREIGN GEESE!
I am sure some tin hatters are discussing that it was really a hijacking attempt and the pilot and crew stopped it but had to land in the river.
Sometimes a rose is a rose.
Yes... go have a stiff drink and sleep for a while. Your paranoia is absurd.
Good point.
“the birds were making a dry run”
Those damn islamic geese.
I watched the same guy. I think he was the one who prompted me to post what I did. His "terror" was for the people on board, not for the city.

With the proliferation of video cameras I’m surprised we haven’t seen a video of the crash landing yet.
I’m sure that many who saw the plane flying low thought the very same thing -— possible terrorism -— the same first thought that occurred in many of us when the lights went out in 2003. Nobody actually ‘said’ anything, but that was our initial thought. FWIW.
I don’t think he is proposing that is was a hijack attempt. I think he is proposing that if you had been watching as it happened you might have thought it was a hijack attempt.
Actually, I have some nice bourbon right at hand. Thank you. What I think absurd is your memory.
The pilot undoubtedly "declared an emergency" to ATC (pilot lingo) this time, but I can imagine someone with evil intentions doing the same.

They were canadian geese dangit. And if Canada refuses to control their geese then I say we have to invade !
Canadian Bacon time.
As to hitting a building. Lets be realistic. Any plane leaving that runway will be able to change course and hit any number of large buildings before anyone can scramble anything to respond. Same is true of many other metro area airports.
Now can we declare war on these evildoing Canada Geese?
At least there are fewer today to foul our lands and waters.
We are over-run with them here in Alabamastan.
Actually they were trying to divert to Teterboro airport according to what the tower said since it’s been reported that the pilot asked the tower what was the airport he could see below him.
They probably didn’t have the altitude or the airspeed to make Teterboro, so they ditched in the river.
When I was a kid in Boston, we used to get these groundings a lot - they were caused by birds (starlings, or as they say in Beantown “a wicked big cloud of them freakin Stah-lins” would bring down the jets because the people’s republic of massachusstts were too stupid to wipe them out - the crazies lobbied to PROTECT them. Until the early ‘60s you used to be able to go down and skket shoot them...but, you know, birds have rights too...like the coots that are protected and eating every golf course in CA till there’s nothing but mud...no telling how many people will die because we can’t kill some of these winged rodents, like gulls and starlings...
