Details emerge on Jett Travolta's death

John Travolta, Kelly Preston and their children Jett and Ella Bleu, leave an airport in Rome.

John Travolta's lawyers -- who are close family friends -- reveal that Jett may have died in his father's arms Friday.

Us: How is John doing?

-snip- "John and Kelly are suffering total misery. They were so close to their son. This is hard to accept.

-snip-

Us: Have John and Kelly spent time with anyone since everyone arrived?

Ossi and McDermott: "John and Kelly have been pretty much locked away.

"We are staying here until John leaves. The autopsy should be on Monday.

-snip-

Us: It's been reported that Jett was left alone for several hours before being discovered. Can you clarify the timeline?

Ossi and McDermott: "Jett was not left alone. He had a nanny present at all times. The nanny was sleeping close to Jett's room. There was a baby monitor, a chime on the door so it was known when Jett was going in and out. He was completely supervised. The nanny found him.

Us: Is it true that Jett died in John's arms?

Ossi and McDermott: "Jett may have still been alive when John administered CPR, and then the EMT took over. Jett was pronounced dead at the hospital. I like to believe John had a chance to say goodbye. He may have died in his dad's arms. I am not certain."

Us: It's been said Jett had a history of seizures. How often did he have them?

Ossi and McDermott: "I am not confident to talk about that. I know he had a history, which of course warranted the extra attention."

-snip-

oh I missed that.. the Today show did a piece on this story?

in a sense to me.. it really is not as important that he was not diagnosed with autism... but rather what is more important was that his seizures were not being treated with any medication at the time of his death.. and for a period before his death.. which at this time we have no idea how long that was.. and how long he had been suffering..

I have something for you to look at...which if you know much about Scientology(and I realize you don’t) shows the depths of their propaganda machine..and their insanity... I will never understand how sane people get mixed up in this cult.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSS178Q-4eo

Watch the interview. He sounds believable, right??? IF you don’t know anything about Scientology.

This is Anne Archer’s son who is the spokesperson for Scientology.

While you are watching it...keep these points in mind:

The Disconnection policy is well documented by former members, leaked documents, and court cases and Judges weighing in on it in various countries.

Operation Freakout

“Strange things seem to happen to people who write about Scientology. Journalist Paulette Cooper wrote a critical book on the cult in 1971. This led to a Scientology plot (called Operation Freak-Out) whose goal, according to church documents, was “to get P.C. incarcerated in a mental institution or jail.” It almost worked: by impersonating Cooper, Scientologists got her indicted in 1973 for threatening to bomb the church. Cooper, who also endured 19 lawsuits by the church, was finally exonerated in 1977 after FBI raids on the church offices in Los Angeles and Washington uncovered documents from the bomb scheme. No Scientologists were ever tried in the matter.”

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,972865,00.html

But most importantly, listen to What Tommy Davis says about the claim that Scientology is about getting rid of space aliens to clear oneself...(which by now, you know is exactly what Scientology is about)

This is the propaganda machine in action....
and shows how they lie and spin...

and it is out in full force right now with Jett’s death.

We share some experiences. If you get a chance read the book I mentioned. The author thought the whole thing was just great. He really didnt see what he and the hosptial had done. Interesting bit of brainwashing.

I am hospice trained from twenty five years ago. It has changed dramaticly. I want you to realize that I am all for aleviating discomfort. I do not care if the medications shorten life in the quest for comfort. But that is different from snuffing out life because of a schedule to meet. Or because people cant handle looking at real death in all its noises and length. We do not go quietly and easily into the night.

I didn’t see. I heard about it.

I didn’t know walking on Tippy Toes was a sign of autism.

The guy who tried to help Jett ..said that he was able to get his daughter to start speaking etc..but the use of flash cards is what caused the Handler to reject this program for Jett.

I have read reports that Kelly wanted to get help for her son but John told her no and it lead to problems in the marriage. No way to know if that is true or not...

but..Kelly appeared to be receptive to help..as indicated by the man who tried the ruse to help Jett.

Here is the thing that kept going through my head...WHAT IF THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION.....and I refused to administer ANY morphine to my mother..I let the primary decision maker do it.....because I swear they were subtly indicating to take her out...she was never incapacitated mentally...and had the ability to make her own decisions. I know that she understood me on the day she died when i asked her if she wanted to go to the hospital.

I was questioning something..i dont remember what it was...about care for my mother to the hospice worker..and she said..why would you want to prolong her life...and I had to walk out of the room I was so furious...because it was my mother’s decision to make..not the damn hospice worker.

Now of course it is a different story if someone is incapable of making the decisions for themselves..but they knew that was not the case with her.

I wish we had never called them in because I know it scared my mother..she was afraid of them..and was afraid no one would protect her.

One thing.. that seems odd.. is the lack of information coming out about Jett’s condition..

Scientology is taking a huge blow right now.. regardless of how the story turns out.. whether there is actually any blame to be assigned to Scientology in the end.. it is experiencing a PR nightmare right now..

And we know how careful scientology is with PR..

btw.. did you read about the musical chairs incident at the scientology HQ.

NO but I will look it up. There are so many crazy stories about this group.

Any exposure of their insanity by the media is a good thing and may help save someone’s life and finances.

The Leader did not show up to the big New years shindig.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyvK6cjvBSI

Everyone is wondering why. I believe the timing of the event was before Jett’s death..so that wasn’t the cause of his no show.

Maybe he was worried it would get raided.

Hubbard went into hiding..maybe David is next.

wow.. i didn’t know that isaac hayes had died.. I heard he quit South Park..

But there are a lot of questions still to be raised about Isaac Hayes’ death. Why, for example, was a stroke survivor on a treadmill by himself? What was his condition? What kind of treatment had he had since the stroke? Members of Scientology are required to sign a form promising they will never seek psychiatric or mental assistance. But stroke rehabilitation involves the help of neurologists and often psychiatrists, not to mention psychotropic drugs — exactly the kind Scientology proselytizes against

I don’t know much about Isaac Hayes. I wonder if he quit after South Park started making fun of scientology.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bzcGK9xqEU

I was looking for the south park video and found this great mix of Hubbard, southpark, and the interview I posted with Tommy davis..

hilarious..and scary at the same time that this group has so much power.

Oh, I just read this . How sad. It appears he was forced to leave South park by Scientology. And here is the ridiculousness of this cult. They force him to leave..and he still has to find a way to pay them.

What a tragic end for a man who entertained so many.

It appears his bankruptcy that caused him to lose the rights to his songs had nothing to do with having to fork over cash to the Leader. I think he must have joined after the bankruptcy....not sure of the year but he started talking about the cult in the 90’s.

Here is a possible explanation as to why Kyle Brennan’s father called his Scientology handlers before the paramedics.

Hubbard had a process to bring the child back from the dead

Magazine Articles on Level 0 Checksheet 1968, “Dissemination of Material” p.75:
“A child had died, was dead, had been pronounced dead by a doctor, and the auditor, by calling the thetan back and ordering him to take over the body again brought the child to life.”

http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeta/scn/Scn-dem-200401/scn/nl/english/med-claims1.html

Scientology can cure cancer polio insanity (but not that of the leader) etc through auditing.

http://www.whyaretheydead.net/room758.html

And because the process didn’t work for Jett..maybe that is why John ended up calling on God.

From a former 0t8 on the anonymous board:

“From my own experience and observations;
“The bottom line is that Scientologists SOMETIMES seek conventional medical treatment for medical conditions, but only upon tightly controlled and monitored approval by the non-medically trained Scientology Case Supervisor, and this usually after it becomes apparent that all internal Hubbard technological approaches would fail to provide an adequate resolution of the condition “

The tight control can be seen by the claim that someone tried to help jett, kelly was interested, but it was rejected because of the use of flash cards.

personally, i think he did that because he is an idiot...perhaps it's his way of proselytizing... trying to get others to believe in his cause... maybe he apologized because he realized that she is not a Scientologist and cannot be expected to live like one...

i remembered that Brooke Shields was Catholic because she and i are the same age, and when i was a teenager, i thought it was cool that we practiced the same religion... when she married for the second time, she had a Catholic ceremony at the home of a friend... i believe she also had her marriage to Andre Agassi annulled... so i am assuming she is still a Catholic...

I remember when Tony Snow died, we were all very angry at the ugly things posted about him and his family on sites like Daily KOS, etc. To me what has been allowed on this FR thread is every bit as repulsive and an embarassment to what is supposed to be a serious discussion site, not a tabloid site.

Some interesting comments on this blog from someone with a special needs child who is disgusted by what she is reading on the web..

What People Think They Know About Jett Travolta

Wednesday January 7, 2009

I've been reading comments lately on other blogs about the death of John Travolta's son, Jett (pictured with his dad at right), and Jett's alleged autism. The speculation that Jett is autistic, despite his parents' refusal to confirm it, has been going on for a while, and the 16-year-old's death from a seizure has brought it forth anew, with an extra helping of blame and shame.

As I see commenter after commenter state with certainty that this young man they've seen only in photos and TV tapes is autistic, I have to wonder: Isn't this the sort of thing we complain about when people do it to us? When someone pretends to know all about our kid because they've heard talk or spent a couple of minutes watching us, don't we tell them where they can put their judgments?

I look at photos of Jett Travolta, the ones so many folks see autism in, and I can't help but think of my own son, who has a similar appearance. People who've seen him out in public have tagged him as autistic, too, with his flapping hands and jumping and rocking and bad eye contact. He's had a couple of seizures, which, last I checked, don't prove he has autism either. His true diagnosis is one that includes the behaviors and the seizures but excludes some of the autism factors that are less easy to spot. That's the reason we have to pay specialists for these diagnoses instead of just getting the neighbor lady to sign off.

We all know, don't we, that appearances and hearsay and the things we think we know about somebody else's child are not valid diagnostic tools. Don't we? Well enough when it's aimed at us, I guess. But the temptation to apply our knowledge to the shortcomings of others is powerful. We can say we're concerned for the child, or the family, or the profile of the disability that means so much to us, but in the end, we're no better than the teacher or the caseworker or the gossip who knows everything about us based on not much.

To diagnose another person's child, particularly a child you know only through the media, is presumptuous. To jump from there to assuming that the child has not been afforded appropriate treatment -- "appropriate treatment" being a subject of plentiful contention in the autism community all by itself -- to assuming that the seizure that killed him was related to the supposed lack of treatment, is a whole lot of jumping. Flap your hands when you jump like that, and somebody's going to diagnose you with autism.

The fact that the Travoltas are Scientologists seems to give critics carte blanche to suspect and accuse them. I don't know about Scientology, but in my own faith, there's a belief in the wisdom of "Judge not, lest ye be judged." As special-needs parents, we should know better than anybody how bad that judging feels, and how bad outsiders are at getting our families right. Surely we could give even the rich and famous among us a little benefit of the doubt.

I agree that no one can make the diagnosis of autism or not for Jett Travolta. At this point, I think it’s really a moot point anyway. The seizure, or the fall that resulted from the seizure, is what took his life, and that is not something that anyone could have predicted or prevented. As for treatment, I believe it was reported that he had been on and off different seizure medications due to side effects, so it seems extremely unfair to judge his parents and assume that they didn’t try to help him. If you take seizure meds yourself or know someone who does, then you probably are aware that there can be significant adverse effects. Moreover, if you have any knowledge or experience of seizures, then you probably also know that they are extremely unpredictable and that individuals can go years without having an episode, and then, BAM, have a grand mal seizure. To your point, Terri, it is unfair for any of us to judge the Travoltas.

The speculation surrounding the death Jett Travolta has been so unfair. My sister had a seizure disorder for five years prior to her death at age 20. Those five years were full of medication changes and periods of being on and off treatment while trying to figure things out. When she died, after falling in a position which obstructed her airway while having a seizure (at a time when she was on medication), it was a huge shock and nothing anybody could have been prepared for. ****************************************

Thank you for so putting into words what I have been thinking about since the first new stories about this tragedy appeared. To review the facts to date:

1. We do not know what Jett Travolta’s diagnosis is or was (nor should we - he isn’t famous, his parents are),.

2. We don’t know what treatments he received or didn’t receive and have no criteria to judge if they were adequate since we don’t have any facts.

3. We don’t know if his seizures were untreated or undertreated but based on my experience, the treatments for seizures is complex, and second guessing based on media reports is ridiculous.

4. In all photos that I have seem of him, he appeared to be happy, loved and surrounded by family.

5. Just because he had special needs, he is NOT public property and public speculation about treatments, diagnoses etc. is a waste of time and insulting to all parents who try to do their best by their children with special needs.
