Conspiracy theorists can't see the wood for the trees as they spot 'timber plank' on Mars

An image sent back from the Red Planet has revealed an object bearing an uncanny resemblance to a wooden log. It was captured by the Mars Rover near the Endurance Crater.

The find has excited conspiracy theorists...who claim it is evidence there are vast forests on Mars that have been kept from the public.

It is more likely to be a case of pareidolia - where a random stimulus is perceived as having significance, be it a symbol seen in a cloud or a face on a piece of toast.

...one website insists it is a leaked image that 'could get someone killed.' A writer from TheCrit.com said NASA's claims Mars was a desert world were 'lies' and that 'there are vast forests on Mars, ones that are kept from the public.'

They go on to speculate the 'wood' was brought to its present position by a flood of water that must have happened within 40 years 'because the wood is intact.'

Tyre marks indicate the Mars Rover drove over
the 'plank' in this image

However, the 'plank' has the same shading and a similar linear pattern to the surrounding rock....

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. A careful study of the Bible has many references to another age before the destruction of parts of the Creation during a war in Heaven. This planet is very very old, as is Mars. It is highly likely IMO, that man was on Earth millions of years ago, maybe even on Mars. Why must we believe that this is the only time that mankind has risen to a level of technical sophistication.?

Maybe...
Except...

The weather on Mars ain’t no picnic. We see examples of erosion and deposits laid down by wind.

Snowflakes don’t do well in those conditions.

Why would the government cover up the existance of trees on Mars?

Makes no sense, are they afraid of the publics reaction that the US government is secretly logging on Mars?

For the same reason Galileo went to jail.

It’s a continuation of that process. Galileo went to jail because he proved the Earth traveled around the sun and was not the center of the universe.

Now, McKinnon is going to jail because he ferreted out info that the Earth, even though it is not the center of the universe, also is not the only place in the universe where life exists.

From past observations the polar ice caps on Mars are melting at about the same rate as on Earth.

They MUST have SUVs. Otherwise their melting ice caps would prove that Global Warming is a natural phenomenon caused by something other than people wanting to go where they please, when they please and how they please.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch.

They have found fossilized micro-organisms from Mars not to mention ice that have been widely publicized. So what’s the big deal?

1. Galileo didn't go to jail he was placed under house arrest.

2. Galileo didn't prove that the earth traveled around the sun. Isaac Newton actually did that some years later. Galileo supported Copernicus' theory that the earth travels around the sun and observed that the moons of Jupiter orbited Jupiter and thus the earth is not the only center of rotation in the universe.

3. Who is "McKinnon"? What is his proof for life elsewhere? Where is he being imprisoned and on what charges?

If you want to discuss something, I’ll be happy to do it.
If you want to debate something, I will also give it a shot.

If you simply want to be an argumentative PITA, I won’t play that game.

You can see many, many, many more here:

http://www.msss.com/

Click on MOC Gallery Over 212,000 images.

It will give you a large picture of Mars broken into subsection.

When you chose a subsection, and click on a blue image region, it will give you optional views.

The best election is “View Large Tiled Images”, these are blow-uppable.

Sorry to be a “PITA” but you make two incorrect assertions that are contradicted by the historical record and then claim that some guy I’ve never heard of named McKinnon is going to jail because of something he “ferreted out”.

Last I checked, ferreting out is not a crime in most places unless what you happen ferret out actually belongs to someone else.

I feel that asking who “McKinnon” is, what his credentials are and why he is going to be going to jail are legitimate questions. Is he a reputable scientist who is being unjustly persecuted by the government or academic establishment or is he some crackpot who plagiarized or distorted someone else’s work and is facing plagiarism or libel charges? Or is it something completely different?
