“Microsoft has posted 72 job openings in Washington since layoffs announced”
Posted by Benjamin J. Romano
SNIPPET: “A week ago, Microsoft announced its first companywide layoff, letting go 1,400 people as part of a plan to cut up to 5,000 jobs in the next 18 months. But the company made clear it would continue hiring, perhaps 2,000 to 3,000 people, in strategically important areas. And judging by its U.S. online jobs site, it intends to. A search of the site for positions in Washington state brought back 72 openings posted since Jan. 22, the day the layoffs were announced.”

SNIPPET: “BILLINGS, Mont. - A spokeswoman for a chain of retail outdoor sporting goods stores opening its first Montana location this spring says more than 200 employees will be hired in coming months.”
I’ve met a couple of people lately who are marketing themselves on Craigslist as handymen, and making $75k (not bad for here in FL).
Great idea, Thanks!

I went to a job search class and here’s what I found out.
Apparently 80% of jobs are filled by current employees or someone knows someone, and the number is going up. There is a business/social site called Linked In that basically gives you electronic networking on a Six degrees of separation methodology, up to 3 levels automatically. For instance, I know Bob and Bob knows Jim. I can ask Bob for reference/recommendation and access to Jim. Or Bob-Jim-the queen of Sheba. And theres another called Simply Hired that aggregates all the jobs that are out in public domain JobDango, Monster.com, the Oregonian, etc, so you only need to look one place.
Theres a form filler called roboform that you can use to fill out applications.
Last but not least, when youre doing an electronic resume, apparently some employers use electronic means to filter out who they might want to interview. If you want to get more words onto the filtering mechanism that arent in your resume, you can put them on the document and then use white font. The electronic filter will see it and the potential employer wont.
Blessings and best wishes to those who are looking for work.
