I’d say “Train Wreck” is a good caption or “Dead and doesn’t know it”

I read a biography of “Papa” John Phillips some years back and seem to remember a story of Janis having codeine cough syrup mixed in with her Southern Comfort, more cough syrup than Comfort.

Do you think somebody’s lifestyle has something to do with their talent? A lot of great artists were completely dissolute.

Anything is/was possible back in the 60’s..I remember walking across Washington Square park to go to classes at NYU..the marijuana smoke was so thick, so strong, you could get a buzz just from breathing...

Not familiar with him. Just listened to his cover on YouTube and I’d have to say it’s a tie. I like his approach better (sounds like someone who really does need to go to rehab) but I like the music in Winehouse’s version better. The horns make the piece, IMHO.

But, I do have to agree with what one of the comments on YouTube says: “Bloody hell... it’s Nina Simone.” Definitely a heck of a talent.

Had she stuck with the Southern Comfort, she might have lived longer. Poor kid. Stupid way to die.

Try YouTubbing an interview with him.

His Scotish accent is soooo thick you can’t understand 20% of what he says.

Before he got clean, Stevie Ray Vaughn used to mix cocaine and Crown Royal. He called it his “morning pick-me-up.”

The thing that enraged me about his death was that he was about to die young and die badly, and he did just what he needed to do to survive and live real life again, and then he dies in a stupid controlled flight into terrain accident.

“Life by the Drop” was one of his last recordings, and it may be the prettiest blues song ever.

I will have to agree but I would change the “is talented” to “was talented”. Its gone to pot.

Like Whitney Houston. One of the greatest. Gone to pot.

But I guess the talent is still there... somewhere.

Good Lord! These people self destruct in front of their lackeys and no one does anything-she is one bizarre broad - great voice but one of these days we will hear on the news she was found dead somewhere.

Yes in some respects. A person who is mentally ill and an artist I can appreciate, a person who is an overt whoremongering, dopeheaded, dirtbag and does nothing to hide/fix it and has talent I do not watch or notice. I do not think writing a song or poem while strung out equates to other arts wince you were altered when you did it.

Case and point, NBA and NFL. A lot of joy was taken away from watching these sports knowing I am helping to enable the Pacman Jones/Dennis Rodmans of the world, so I quit watching except on occasion ( basketball not at all in over 15 years ) and I buy none of their junk.

I extend the same to Hollyweird I see no movie with an overt dirtbad, socialist, or queer in the front roles and yes I see very little movies as of late.

I am just fed up with no remorse or accountability on these peoples’ part. Nobody is perfect but my patience is up with facilitating the message these mouth-breathers get to send out.

And to tell the truth I don’t miss it and I have so much more time on my hands for other things. Bottom line most of these people have no more talent than anyone else they just got noticed when strung out by other strung our people or lucky. Their are exceptions but few
