DUANESBURG, N.Y. - A 29-year-old man leaped out of a plane at 10,000 feet with a camera but no parachute Saturday. His body was found next to a house with a damaged roof, police said.
Sloan Carafello of Schenectady, who was observing on the flight, followed an instructor, student and videographer out the door, wearing no skydiving gear, officials said.
Police said they did not suspect foul play but would not elaborate.
Robert Rawlins, pilot and owner of the Duanesburg Skydiving Club, said he was flying the single-engine plane and had begun to close the door when Carafello jumped.
His body was found next to a house west of Albany.

Did the camera and pictures survive?

The gene pool ratings for this planet just went up a notch!Well, not exactly. That was made up by the results of the DemoRAT primary contest.

what must have gone through his mind on the way down? Probably part of that house's roof that he hit.

Perhaps he was thinking he was a fowl and could fly.

Those people probably think they’re going to get a new roof from the Jump School’s insurance company.

reminds me of ...
Hawkeye- Well you know Tuttle, no sacrifice too great.
This morning while the rest of us were selfishly having a cup of coffee he went off in a helicopter to do some field surgery. He jumped with his plasma,
his bag,
everything an army doctor needs
except his parachute.

When you live on the edge, you just need that rush.
I guess.

I wonder if anyone was holding his beer for him.
As the Army brat son of a career Paratrooper (Airborne All The Way, and don’t you forget it.) one of the things my dad taught me was to never jump out of a plane without your parachute. I still remember that lesson to this day and I’m still alive!

I love that song.
And yes, if you ask me, Mr. Pastrana IS crazy.
To: BenLurkin
Funny - I seem to recall this on a video a few years back. Maybe it’s a recurrent theme ... the photog’s get so involved in filming they forget to put on the ‘chute themselves ....

Knew someone who got his airborne “wings” in the 70s. Still remember him singing “Stand up - hook up - shuffle to the door...”
To: BenLurkin
If he was filming the jump through the camera's view finder then he may have lost situational awareness when following the student and instructor. The result being he took one step too far.
From 10,000ft it would have taken about one minute to reach the ground.
Terrible accident.

Let’s hope he had not reproduced before removing himself from the gene pool.
