Glad you have a diagnosis.. not terribly great but treatable & so much pressure is in the not knowing & the worry around that.]
Prayers for you friend.. my diebetic friends say the strict diet it the hardest part. Actually we would all do better probably on that type of diet.
thanks for the update! - prayers continue for you
Eat your VEGGIES prayer bump!

Brat, I’ll bet you’re referring to an Una boot and Silvadene Creme.
We’re going thru something very similar with a family member. The Una boot treatment was used for years as ours is a recurring issue, but it isn’t working anymore in our case. However, ours has always been arterial.
Jim, I would very much appreciate it if you’d put me on your pings for this so I can keep up with your treatments. So far, they’re identical.
I’m glad you told me that!
Oh it was soooooooo painful & I can handle a lot of pain. I couldn’t walk at all for a week, and then got Phlebitis in my leg...Sheesh
My heart attack & the stints were a piece of cake compared to Plavix almost killing me.
Diabetes is so treatable these days. Be good and follow doctor's orders!
FRegards,
Prayers for you Jim. Lots for a long time beacon in my life.
Hey Jim, hope you get to feeling better. I’m no doctor, nor am I a hippie, but I use this site for myself and my family for home remedies. It’s not a sales site or some kind of snake oil gimmick. Check around and you might find a little relief. I’ve used many of the home remedies and some work, and some, not so much. It’s a whole lot of drink this and apply that, but it has good results.
Try honey for some of the sores or blisters, and try drinking natural Apple Cider Vinegar as well. Old fashioned Blackstrap Molasses works well also, and it’s good in coffee.
Here’s the link, and good luck and get well soon.

Jim, you’re in our daily thoughts and prayers. Hang in there. No doubt in my mind you’ll pull through just fine — especially with these many freepers praying for you! You’re family here, keep that in mind. And keep us posted.
The compression stocking was the saving grace to eliminate the edima. The Specialist explained edima in laymen's terms we could understand... fluid gets trapped in between layers of skin and it has nowhere to go. The compression stocking forces the fluids back into the tissues, squeezing it out from being trapped between the layers of skin. With forced continued compression the pockets between layers of skin, which were occupied with excess fluids, are eventually eliminated and skin layers are restored and functioning.
Dad is a heart patient (coronary artery disease, triple by-pass, eventual atrial flutter which led to a pace-maker) and his cardiologist nixed the idea of using the compression stocking, reasoning it may cause another heart episode. The Wound Care Specialist forged ahead with a treatment plan that resulted in a full recovery of this issue for my Dad.
Thank you all so much for your prayers. Ive got an update. Yesterday, I went in for a blood test. The VA called me this morning and said the blood test shows I have diabetes. Why it never showed up on earlier tests no one knows. Now I have an appointment for tomorrow to pick up supplies and learn how to give myself injections. Ouch! Not looking forward at all to this.666 posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 1:09:18 PM by Jim Robinson
JimRob thanks for the Update.
What is your A1c? The A1c is a 90-day average blood glucose reading. The American Diabetes Assoc asserts that a reading of 7.0 in a diabetic indicates diabetes is controlled. I'm curious as to why doctors started you with insulin first, instead of oral medications? There are so many good medications available to control diabetes before moving to insulin injections.
I have Type-2 Diabetes, diagnosed in June 2006. My A1c was 10.4 and the Endocrinologist wanted to start me on injections. I refused and requested oral meds as a beginning. Three months later, with proper diet & exercise and oral medications my A1c had dropped to 4.6 and my oral meds were changed, greatly reduced.
Diet & Exercise are essential to controlling blood glucose. Counting carbs is more important than counting calories. A Diabetic should consume between 45 to 60 carbs per meal. Exercise is the key to opening cells to store sugar as energy, thus lowering blood glucose, without exercise sugar is stored as fat.
After my diagnosis, with proper diet, exercise and meds I've lost 80 pounds. My doctor told me this week it's entirely possible for me to get off meds if my progress continues. My current A1c is 5.4 on the lowest dose of medication.
I'm a Certified Diabetes Educator for Type-2 Diabetes (non-insulin). I highly recommend taking a Diabetes Education Course, if that's available to you. If not, then take a course in Nutrition where you will learn to read nutrition statements and how to alter favorite recipes for a diabetic diet. Of course, I'm more than happy to share what I've learned and what I teach others with you through email. FReepmail me your email address if your interested.
Keeping you and Mrs. JimRob in my prayers!
