Thanks, yorkie. I am very proud of them. My (step)granddaughter is a Freshman at CalPoly in San Luis Obispo this year. My oldest grandson will be a junior in high school next autumn and my youngest grandson turned ten last February. Where does the time go???
If they are anything like our hummingbirds, even if you hid their feeder under a bushel, they will find it. It just may take her awhile to get used to it in a new location. :-)
We bought a hummingbird feeder for my MIL who is in an assisted living center and put it outside her patio door in view of her recliner. She gets such pleasure out of watching them at the feeder all summer. As far as entertainment value for her, it was a great investment.
I have one of those in an azelea bush that needs to be trimmed back now. It will have to wait ‘til the babies fly.
Hi, lonestar! I got a small azalea bush for my birthday last month. I’ve kept it alive here in the house, but it probably won’t grow in this hot, sandy soil. Durnnit!
Weinie
You have a bird's nest in your azelea? I love watching nature play out in my own backyard, except now that I know they are there, I shall worry about them until the babies are out on their own.
I feel so bad about what I did. Yesterday I trimmed all the brush out from under my two Oleanders before I realized that my jays were nesting there. I know they build their nests near dense scrub (hence the name "scrub jays") so that the fledglings will have cover after they leave the nest. Now I am going to have to take all the cuttings and put them back up under the bushes. It's not going to look good for awhile, but I can't have the babies out in the open until they can fly properly.
Put some potting soil around the roots and keep a lot of leaves and pine straw around it. Water it a lot because they like humidity—I think. They are sturdy plants...we had some still growing on uprooted pine tree roots after Rita...when you had to wait in line to have stumps ground. Another 2 months and we would have had azeleas blooming in the air!
It is the thought that counts dear, and ty I could always need prayer...
I hope there are lots of birds at Rainbow Bridge and I hope my Bear is keeping busy there.
Love you, Weinie. You are my second most favorite dachshund of all time. :-)
Thanks, lonestar! I am going to try that, and I will let you know the results!
There are lots of birds at Rainbow Bridge. I'm not afraid of bluejays anymore.
I'll tell you something funny....I think lonestar put too much sugar in the hummingbird feeders because some of them are beginning to look like elephants with wings! Little gluttons!!!

That's wonderful! I have put several bird houses out and never once have any birds nested in them. The jays prefer building in low tree branches with dense shrubs nearby for the babies to hide in when they leave the nest. House finches will build nests in hanging strawberry baskets on the patio, but never once have I seen any bird pay a bit of attention to my bird houses. :-(
We’re here for you, if you need any of us. Yes, we can all use prayer - and are more than happy to pray for our friends.
(I’m still mad at myself that I couldn’t find the right poem or inspiration for you!)
Don’t worry about it, it doesn’t make you less of a friend...*hugs*
LOL. Yes, I do know that. Okay, YOU are my very most favorite....right after Bear. ;-)

LOL. I had some chubby little potbellied hummingbirds last summer too! I think they were sidling up to the juice bar a little too often. Very well fed hummingbirds, they were! ;-)
Well, isn't that special? LOL. I don't know how to fix it, darn.

You know, Yorkie, I was told that they come back to the same nest year after year, so it will stay. In fact, it could have been there for years already and I only noticed it this year. I saw the hummer picking at the tree bark last November and finally realized she was using it to make a nest. It's a little beauty of a nest.
