I have one of those in an azelea bush that needs to be trimmed back now. It will have to wait ‘til the babies fly.

Hi, lonestar! I got a small azalea bush for my birthday last month. I’ve kept it alive here in the house, but it probably won’t grow in this hot, sandy soil. Durnnit!

You have a bird's nest in your azelea? I love watching nature play out in my own backyard, except now that I know they are there, I shall worry about them until the babies are out on their own.

I feel so bad about what I did. Yesterday I trimmed all the brush out from under my two Oleanders before I realized that my jays were nesting there. I know they build their nests near dense scrub (hence the name "scrub jays") so that the fledglings will have cover after they leave the nest. Now I am going to have to take all the cuttings and put them back up under the bushes. It's not going to look good for awhile, but I can't have the babies out in the open until they can fly properly.
