I wondered how you chose your nickname, or even your tagline. I enjoy reading the wide variety of names and taglines, as well as some home pages. FReepers are very creative, and smart. I've learned a lot here!
My husband used to work as a noise and vibration engineer for Sargent Controls, a subcontractor for Electric Boat, where he tested valves used on Los Angeles class submarines.
Billybob lives on, on FreeRepublic. Felicity has been retired.
And that's the name of that tune.
Congressman Billybob
Not yet. That’s an excellent link!
It is a cool nickname!
Thanks!
Well, let’s see now. DD... hmmm. Oh yeah, now I remember. An answer involves a two-fold reply.
‘Twas a dark and stormy night... long ago... I had been lurkin’ in the old Whitewater Files.
Then someone posted a thread calling all military types to sound off at muster. Wanting to join my fellow vets, I sign up. Now, what kinda name should I select?
I mentioned the Whitewater Files. Folks were bringing forth a ton of info regarding X42 and a lot involved diving deep into the dumpsters about the Arkansas trash. Soooo, DD was born.
Part II, I was a Second Class Diver in the Navy back in the days of Hardhat diving.
I’d get banned if I explained my FReep Name.
It’s highly classified.
I thought you looked familiar...
Got teenagers too, eh?
:o)
I’ve always wondered if I could find links to the old election threads for 2000. They must have been tremendously exciting!
Well, Nick was just standing there and I had this 2x4 in my hands.....I really don't remember the rest.
:)
==> “Hi there fellow IBMer. There seem to be quite a number of us on FR.” <==
Not really a surprise. I retired on 11/31/05, with almost 31 years, full pension, and medical benefits for my wife and I. The benefits were free for a year or two, but are still better than what IBM provides to current retirees.
I started doing contract work the very next day for one of my IBM clients, and eventually did a lot of work for perhaps 20 such clients over the next 7 years. I was heavily involved with Y2K readiness, and performed numerous hardware and software upgrades for that purpose. I worked in the low-end mainframe boxes and the VSE and VM operating systems, CICS, DB2 database, plus SNA and TCP/IP communications. And I made several times what my IBM salary had been.
I stopped doing IT a few years ago, and taught Managerial Economics for Webster University (Millington campus) MBA program for 5 semesters. And I just completed a year as president of Memphis Mensa. Now I am taking a class on Biblical Archeology of Israel, taught by a IDF reserve infantry major who conducts private tours over there, and I am doing this instead of my homework!
Exciting? Only if you could enjoy a 36 day nervous breakdown. Freepers were present in the 3 Florida counties that were in dispute, with hanging chads, dimpled chads, and all that nonsense. It was like the roller coaster ride from hell.
Here's a link to an archived page from '98. I doubt any of the links will take you anywhere but an interesting page from days of old...
Now that is cool!
I live in the mountains.
I like rabbits.
I remember, but all I knew at the time was NewsMax and World Net Daily. FR would have been a huge help!
