(German) Army recruit kicked out over fake boobs

A female recruit is appealing after she was kicked out of army training in Germany for having breast implants.

Alessija Dorfmann, 23, who has a D cup after the operation, said: "I am devastated - it has always been my dream to be a soldier and have a great figure - and now my fake boobs have cost me my job.

"I could not stop crying when they told me. I wanted to work as an army medic and help save lives."

The brunette who earned the money for the boob job working as a carer in an OAP's home before joining the army has now appealed the ruling - and military chiefs have pledged to review the situation.

Army spokesman Harald Kammerbauer said: "The rule that was brought in because of the increased risk of an injury is under review.

"It was introduced more than a decade ago and it may be that it is no longer relevant in the modern army. In future we may be prepared to make exceptions."

Somehow, my eyes played a trick on me. On first reading, I thought it said

Not to mention female soldiers run the risk of having their breasts damaged or destroyed by IEDs. Also, breast cancer is covered under TRICARE. As a female soldier, I expect to leave the military with all the parts I came in with, or at least a reasonable facimile and I don't want to be the very first one my Army Doc has ever done surgery on. Funny how there's never been ANY uproar concerning the treatment of facial trauma or male reproductive system surgery or medication (re: Viagra).

On the other hand, as far as fixing a soldier whose breast implant burst on the obstacle course in BCT? Not worth the money.

I don't know about the other services, but the Army used to reject anyone with RK or Lasik They've since dropped that ban. friend of mine was turned away first because his eyesight was bad, then because he'd had it corrected with lasik. Once they dropped the lasik ban he tried one more time to enlist, but by then he was 36 and his knees weren't good enough.

The concern was, when those surgeries were new, that they didn't know how surgically-altered corneas would hold up under extreme stress. Now they have enough of a track record that it's no longer a major concern.

The funny thing is the US Army on a space available basis provides free breast augmentation surgery for female Soldiers. The Soldier has to pay for the supplies, but to keep our plastic surgerons trained in all facets of their profession, the Army allows them to perform the surgeries on Soldiers who want them so the physicians stay marketable in the civilian world once they leave the Army. Sounds controversial, but the truth is, it would hurt retention and recruiting of plastic surgeons (who fix blown up faces in Iraq etc.) if they didn’t allow it.

Breast implants are usually augmentations, but not always. Female soldiers could lose a breast to injury or cancer, and the military should be prepared to treat that as they would any other injury or ailment. Military plastic surgeons doing elective breast implants serves the same purpose as rotating military surgeons through ER duty in inner-city trauma wards to keep their skills sharp..
