Actually, the candidate I like best after Hunter is Thompson. I explained myself in this post on another thread.

Just don’t ever call me a liar and a phony again, because it will be normy that is not telling the truth.

I have said repeatedly that I am not supporting anyone at this point. I don’t even know if I will vote on Super Tuesday.

Hell McCain could win the first primaries by a landslide. All that would come of it would be a touch of panic in the GOP leadership as they rush to get him off the stage as quietly and quickly as possible. They let him run out of respect, and never expect him to win but to implode before getting close to the nomination.

Of course they are grossly underestimating the stupidity of this year’s voters, but no matter they will get McCain out in time. He is a time bomb on the trail and worse would be a time bomb in office. The GOP has no desire to be part of that.

I heard that Chelsea’s Mom is a very nice lady except when she is using the IRS to destroy her enemies.

That is the one big thing that McCain did. He made sure all the lost soldiers in captivity in Vietnam would never turn up again. And people are saying this guy is a patriot? What has happened to the USA?

For some reason that I can’t put my finger on, I feel the same as you.

I am NOT a Huck supporter

My fault. Sorry.

I thought I just told you. McCain was one of my flight instructors in the NAVY. Despite my knowing him, it is obvious from his record he is unstable.

This is why I like Mitt better then Fred, because I could see Fred endorsing McCain before endorsing Mitt, because for some reason, according to Fred supporters around here, they seem to consider Mitt his rivial. Meanwhile, they don’t seem to mind McCain at all. I find this disturbing, because I find McCain to be very unlikeable, both for his work on immigration and campaign finance reform. Plus, I think McCain needs a major attitude adjustment. Also, he seems like a poltical hack type who can work just fine with Hillary Clinton, and that bothers me alot. This is the reason that Hillary is able to run for president, because in my opinion too many Senators allowed Hillary to co-exsist with them and all they did was act like poltical hacks. I am completely unimpressed with the current leadership in the Senate. In my opinion, this is why the Republican Party is in trouble because of poltical hacks in Washington. Now you might start to understand why I like Mitt, he is not a political hack from Washington.

“My guess is that Rush doesn’t much care for Romney or Giuliani”

I disagree with you, I think that Rush does like Romney, he said he was very impressed with his leadership ability when he made the speech on religion. I agree though Rush would support Fred before he supported Romney, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like Mitt. I believe he does like the guy. In truth, there is a lot to like about Mitt, except for those who are staunch Fred supporters who see Mitt as their main threat.

“I don’t like McCain much. He’s an egomaniac and he’s wrong on a lot of issues.”

I agree with you about you assessment of McCain, he has some very obvious personality defects. It would be a disaster for the Republican Party if he was ever nominated. I hate to say it, but I even think he is worse then Rudy. Because for all of Rudy’s defects, his liberal policies and all of his infidelities, he still is likeable on a personal level. I can’t say the same about McCain.

What is convincing to me is the sincerity. The man could have easily read the tea leaves and shifted before but instead remained solid and worked for what he believed (however misguided) was the right way forward. Only when the bill was firmly rejected did he say: I accept your decision, I understand your lack of trust, now let’s first work forward to secure the border before anything else. I can respect that.

For me, I’d rather have someone who is consistent even when wrong than someone who is conveniently right and tailored. Because - let’s be honest - compared to the real challenges of the presidency this campaign will seem like a vacuum. When the going gets tough I want a president who can weather that - the consistent man can, while the conveniently right will squirm and falter. The mere fact that John is making this incredible comeback is testament to his stubborn consistency. (And I’d add that I think he is “right” on most issues anyway.)
