Seven years ago, there was mass preparation for Y2K, alleged by some to be the end of the world. Believers scurried to save water and canned foods just in case the new millennium brought the immense devastation theories speculated. Again, we are faced with the timeless question of whether our world will endor not.

The highly intelligent Ancient Mayan civilization developed an intricate calendar which anticipated the end of their Great Cycle of the Long Count-better known as the apocalypse-on Dec. 21, 2012.

Pushing thru the market square,
so many mothers sighing
News had just come over,
we had five years left to cry in

News guy wept and told us,
earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet,
then I knew he was not lying

Weve got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
Weve got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, thats all weve got

- David Bowie (1972)

Mmmmm....crossing ebola and birdflu might do the trick!

references in commentary:

http://yaleglobal.yale.edu/display.article?id=6077

“So China considers H5N1 a state secret...”

“Alas, this stonewalling can kill as the H5N1 acquires more lethal genes - like Ebola genes.
Although it has never been officially seen outside Africa, the intrepid Boxun.com reported last April an Ebola outbreak in Shenzen, next to Hong Kong, which the authorities denied. Now, Boxun sources tell them that the Sichuan outbreak is the rapidly evolving Ebola SZ-77 strain which can infect birds, so it may be tied to bird flu at Qinghai.”

The highly intelligent Ancient Mayan civilization developed an intricate calendar

If they were so smart, how come they couldn't see their civilization's demise?

I'm holding out for the Rapture. And Al Gore's world death by CO2.

Were the Mayans able to predict their own demise?

Wonder if their calendar predicted the fall of their own civilization.

What happened was, the Mayan king refused to pay the change order to extend the calendar. He claimed it was part of the original contract and he had the contractor beheaded.

People have been making these predictions for many many years, and none have been right yet. I trust God when he says that no one knows the hour the Lord will come. There’s nothing we can do anyway but try to live for God.

20 years ago Ted Danson said the US would be flooded by melting polar ice in 10 years.

I don't trust doomsday predictions anymore.
