Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Good morning...

Actually there’s a good series of technical books on writing and at least one of them is mystery novel mechanics. I remember looking at it in B&N one time. Swing by the local bookstore on the way home and check out their fiction writing section - it might be just what you need.
Thanks. I know the ending. It's just all that in-betweenness that's got me bogged down.
This morning I've been to the recycling center (old paint), Goodwill, the Dollar Store (fireplace candles) and DMV. DMV is still being a pain in the butt. They told me I could get the salvage certificate for Jr's car for $10. That's true. What they didn't tell me is that DMV has to inspect it. And that costs $125. We're still under the amount insurance paid, but the fact that it took two phone calls and two trips to DMV to figure that out really pi$$e$ me off.
Getting ready to pull the Christmas extravaganza out of ~the attic~. Then it's back to the leaves.
Generally bail is used to ensure that the arrestee will return for trial. It’s enough money to make sure they don’t want to lose it. Or that whoever is loaning them the money will not let them run.
Bail can be denied and the person held in jail if the judge deems them a flight risk. If the judge can be persuaded that they’re going to run off nomatter how big the bail is... they can be kept in jail.
I’m sure the timing of trials varies greatly, but it’s safe to assume that a trial may be at least several months after an arrest.
Dang... how unusual. :-)
The SIL always has to make sure her mother is there, I guess as a chaperone, I don't know. They belong to a small, very judgmental denomination and I always feel like they're checking me over over horns, hooves, and a tail. I can never say anything right. Nothing I do is correct. And somehow I make her cry?? Her mother is a man-hater and always has snarky things to say about how I center my life around my husband. Yeah, so I cook the man dinner... The two of them are extremely bossy and overly full of themselves. They suck the fun out of any occasion.
Ah, family.
I cain't wait for Christmas. (Did I mention I'm on strike this year?)
Do Cracker Barrel instead. Big'ol and I did that for years before we had family move to the area.
Hm...what I’m writing isn’t strictly a mystery (since everything is exposed at once, and then we have to watch the character try to figure it out...), but that sounds useful. Any idea of the title?
Heh...ain't that always the way?
I have a last scene in mind...might just write it one of these days so I have a clear goal post to aim for.
Then, you can just enjoy your day tomorrow, and save your worrying for Christmas!
Cool...good info!
Does anyone have to vouch for the person if they’re able to get bail? And when they’ve been bailed out, do they just have to stay in the general area? Can they live at home and all?
I’m thinkin’ it likely would interfere with one’s job...ungh. I’m worrying about little details that don’t matter, like the house. If someone ends up convicted, what happens to their stuff?
Rhetorical questions — I don’t expect you to answer. And really, most details like that are glossed over in a book. The reader doesn’t ask themselves who got the guy’s car — in general, anyhow.
Mmmmmmm...Cracker Barrel...
But we don’t has Cracker Barrel here. *snif*
Heh, you know, that’s the one thing I’ve really enjoyed about living so far away for so long. We never had holiday issues because everyone knew we’d never be there anyway. ;o)
It’s the “Howdunit” series. This link on amazon is to what seems to be a “greatest hits of the Howdunit series” compilation
Usually all the court cares about is that the bail money is turned over and the rest is up to the defendant. I don’t think there’s usually anybody that has to vouch for them or take responsibility for them. Judges might have a travel restriction (like don’t leave the country) but most times not, I think. As long as you return for trial, most of the time I don’t think they care what you do in the mean time.
So yes, they can work and live more or less normally. Maybe there’s additional no-contact orders and whatnot.
What happens to somebody’s stuff is their problem. The court isn’t going to care.
Yah...that part I know. But I'm still thinking about it, from the arrested person's perspective. If they end up in jail for life (or for years, anyhow), they'd want to sell their house and things, but how do you do that from jail? With the help of attorneys, I guess. Or someone with a power of attorney. Assuming you can find someone to act on your behalf.
Like I said, for story purposes, it really doesn't matter. No one wonders about that stuff. But as the writer, I do. ;-)
I don’t really know the exact end of mine. But with 6 or 8 years of kicking the idea around I have the in between down fairly well. And it keeps growing. Most of the story was suppose to take place off the earth and I still am thousands or words from them being able to leave.
Hm...looks good.
Would it be in really, really poor taste to ask family for various books from the series for Christmas? ;-)
“Hey, Dad...for Christmas I want ‘Body Trauma: A Writer’s Guide to Wounds and Injuries’, OK?”
Ask for amazon gift certificates ;-)
